Runners and walkers at Andy T’s Farms Pumpkin Trot last month were especially pleased to participate in the 2011 version of the annual event. Not only did they have an opportunity to test their skills, a local organization benefitted from their entry fees and the race sponsorships by local businesses and area residents.
Directors from Clinton County Special Olympics Area 28 were pleased to accept a check for $2,100 from Andy and Sunday Todosciuk, who coordinated this year’s race at Andy T’s Farm Market and Garden Center that was held in conjunction with Andy T’s Pumpkin Fest.

“We are very grateful for the donation and appreciate the individuals who took part in the Pumpkin Trot and the event sponsors,” said Debbie Cornell, director of CCSO Area 28.
The funds will be used for equipment, uniforms and registration fees for Special Olympics athletes to attend tournaments around the state.
In addition to the donation resulting from the Pumpkin Trot, Special Olympics athletes and volunteers staffed a concession stand selling apple slushies that generated over $200.
“It was a great day,” CCSO Area 28 assistant director Kathy Logan said, noting that a number of athletes participated in the Pumpkin Walk, and one Olympian completed the 3K race in 34 minutes. “We’re proud of all our athletes, and are thankful for the help that our volunteers provided at Andy T’s and at all our events throughout the year.”
Practices will be underway soon for the upcoming basketball season, and the Annual Special Olympics Holiday Dance is planned for Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Johns Knights of Columbus. The dance that runs from 7 to 11 p.m. features a deejay and karaoke.
