Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I began a fund raiser for Breast Cancer in 2007. I work at the Courthouse for the City of St. Johns and we, the City and County, got involved in this campaign and formed a team for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We call ourselves the “Courthouse Pinkouts”.
My sisters and mom and dad have all been very involved in this cause due to the fact my youngest sister, Connie Griffin (Price) is a breast cancer survivor. Unfortunately she is now suffering from Small Cell Lung Cancer and Brain Cancer. We have raised a total of $ 6,845.50 in the past five years to donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Each year the donations and participation has increased. During the month of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness month, Panera Bread offers Pink Ribbon bagels.
I drive to Frandor at 6 a.m. and pick up approximately 84 bagels per week. If that isn’t a tough enough job, I have to drive back home with the warm and wonderful smell of 84 bagels in my car. We had a drawing for a Longaberger basket one year. I try to do something different every year.
This year was a very special year in that Harr’s Jewelry, in part, donated a beautiful diamond pendant with a rose gold ribbon in the center. Sue Carroll was the lucky winner to receive the pendant. I would like to thank Harr’s Jewelry for their generosity and support and for being so involved with our community. When you stop into Harr’s Jewelry please thank them.
I would like to once again thank the Courthouse Pinkouts, my sisters, mom and dad, and everyone else for their participation in the October Breast Cancer Awareness month. We could not do or donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation without all of you. I appreciate your kindness and prayers for my sister.
Please know I am there for each and every one of you. This has made me so much more aware of my surroundings and the situations other people are also facing.
