Susan G. Komen, Super Bowl, and Short Thoughts
by Barry Bauer
To start with I don’t know how or why the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure got involved with Planned Parenthood; it doesn’t look to me like a connection between the two should have ever happened. I thought the Foundation’s purpose was to find a cure for breast cancer and not to get involved in politics. Believe me, Pro-Choice and Right to Life is a hot political topic.
That’s the same thing the United Way charity did years ago with they got involved in anti-gun politics and they lost their way and along with that a lot of donations from gun owners. Me included.
They decided to cease and desist. Don’t they call that “conventional wisdom?”
The Komen Foundation donates a large sum of money to Planned Parenthood but that group reportedly doesn’t generally give mammograms and refers most of them on to those who do. So what happens to that money? Does it go to the Planned Parenthood agenda? Do they pay for the referrals or is it eaten up by salaries?
Who knows nowadays.

I didn’t watch the Super Bowl but I did tape the game. That’s so I can catch all the commercials. I was rooting for New England mainly because their quarterback comes from Michigan and I hate Eli Manning. He’s another spoiled brat who said that if drafted by San Diego he wouldn’t play for them. Just like John Elway did to the Baltimore Colts so he was traded to the Denver Broncos. I don’t think players should dictate which teams they will play for. If that happens much more often then the NFL should step in and tell them to play for the team that drafted them or take a hike. It’s the player’s loss and not the fans.

We lost a neighbor this week. No, he didn’t die; he sold his house and moved to Clinton Commons on advice from his family. Bernard and Beulah Neller have lived across the street from us for well over thirty years. They’ve been good as well as helpful neighbors. Bernard helped when we built our family room addition and was a big help when we built the garage. Beulah took the role of “straw boss” and it was hard for a younger man like me to keep up with her.
Beulah is gone now, Bernard moved out this week, and the florescent light in the kitchen that’s been lit 24-hours for all those years is now out.
Hopefully Bernard enjoys many more years in his new digs. We will miss him.

Short thoughts:
You know you’re getting old when you don’t recognize the host of Saturday Night Live.
You know you need a haircut when your wife starts calling you Goldie Locks.
The lamest penalty in football is offsides by the defense. What the hell are those guys looking at?
Oblama plays the electorate for fools and so far it looks like he’s right.
Will there ever be an American Pope?
Until the next time . . .
