The Friends of The Maple River (FOMR) will hold their bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday March 21st at the Ovid Township Hall, at 1015 Baesed Court, in Ovid. The Ovid Township hall is located on the south side of Highway M-21 just east of Hollister road. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM. The meeting site is the eastern edge of Clinton County within one mile of the Maple river, and is in the eastern third of the watershed.
The featured speaker at the meeting will be Ms. Kristin Esch, from the Michigan Department of Agriculture, who will give an overview of Michigan’s Right to Farm program. Her presentation will give meeting attendees a better understanding of the various agricultural practices that occur within the Maple River watershed, and those they may observe as being practiced in the area. Ms. Esch will also address specific concerns and questions that attendees may have regarding the program or agricultural practices.
Mr. Gary Fritz, Executive Diresctor of the Clinton Conservation District, will present an update on the implimantation phase of the Upper Maple River Management Plan.
The FOMR wants folks who live within the watershed to know that the organizations annual River clean-up program is scheduled for Saturday April 14th. To find out more about the clean-up day , or how you can help. please call Mr. Jack Nutter at (AC) 989-862-5541.
The FOMR is also sponsoring a special training session in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in early May to train volunteers to help the FOMR conduct a vegetation assessment of areas within the Maple River State Game Area in Clinton and Gratiot Counties.
