Marvin A. Miller
Marvin A. Miller, 89, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Born in Bengal Township, Michigan, July 14, 1922, the son of Arnold and Pauline (Wieber) Miller. He was a life-long dedicated self-employed farmer and retired technician for Select Sires. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Marvin married Julia F. Lewis, the love his life on April 12, 1944 and she preceded him in death June 24, 1996 after 52 years of marriage.
He is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Gary) McNamara of Maple Rapids and Lois (Richard) Rodgers of St. Johns, three sons, Alan (Sheila) Miller of Lowell, Massachusetts, Martin (LuAnn) Miller of St. Johns and Chuck (Joanne) Miller of Fowler, 27 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren, brother, Hilary (Geraldine) Miller of Lansing, two sisters, Dolores (Donald) Fox of Lennon and Helen Marie Schafer of Dewitt and one sister-in-law, Juliann Miller of Fowler and his little buddy, Zeke. In addition to his wife, Marvin was preceded in death by his brother, Lester Miller, and brother-in-law, Paul Schafer.
Funeral Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 19, 2012, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Fr. Mathias Thelen presiding. The family will receive friends 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, Sunday, at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 PM and a scripture service will be at 8 PM. Gordon C. Piggott, Sr.
Gordon C. Piggott, Sr. died Wednesday March 14, 2012 at the age of 85. He was born March 21, 1926 in Fowler, MI, the son of William and Mae (Smith) Piggott. Gordon married Donna Fletcher on June 26, 1948 in Fowler, and she preceded him in death on December 27, 1979; and on December 7, 1998 Gordon married Frieda Hancock in St. Johns and she survives him.
Gordon was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was also the Post quartermaster of V.F.W. Post #3733, a member of the American Legion of Hubbardston, Knights of Columbus, and the Fowler Conservation Club. He was our Irish Daddy and will be buried on St. Patrick’s Day.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Frieda, daughters, Barb Piggott of Charlotte, Lorraine Weber of Fowler; sons, Tom (Lori) Piggott of Brodhead, WI, Jim (Sandy) Piggott of Fowler, step-children, Tom (Michelle Cashen) Gallagher, Terry (Pauline) Gallagher, Cindy Gallagher, JoAnn (Lowell) Daniels, Tony (Rose) Gallagher, Rose Gallagher; special friend, Jack Cunningham, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and sister, Mary Catherine Fedewa; brothers, Gerald (Caroline) Piggott, Bill (Alice) Piggott and sister-in-law, Opal Piggott. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Donna, son, Gordon, Jr., Step-son, Tim Gallagher, son-in-law, Jerome Weber, and brothers, Ronald and Robert Piggott.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday March 17, 2012 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, MI. The con-celebrants will be Fr. Dennis Howard and Fr. Bill Koenigsknecht. Burial will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM, Thursday and 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Friday with rosaries being prayed Thursday at 8 PM and Friday at 3 PM and 8 PM, at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. Memorial donations may be made to the V.F.W. post #3733, the Hubbardston American Legion, Fowler Fire & Rescue or Hubbardston Fire & Rescue.

Bernice M. Mitchell
Bernice M. Mitchell, 76 of rural Ovid died on Monday, March 12, 2012. Bernice was born on July 29, 1935 in Clinton County, MI the daughter of Lawrence and Irene (Ley) Henning. She attended St. Johns Public Schools and received her GED from Ovid-Elsie High School. Bernice worked at Vaughn’s Seed Co., was a bookkeeper at Owosso Livestock, Harte Trailer Sales and was active with the Shiawassee 4-H livestock sale, and was a homemaker. On October 24, 1953 she married Leonard Mitchell in St. Johns, MI. Bernice was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, past president of the Altar Society and past director of the Catechism Program.
She is survived by her husband Leonard, daughter Margo (Vince) Minarik of Elsie, sons Leonard (Terri) Mitchell of Perry and Terry (Sue) Mitchell of Laingsburg; grandchildren Tim (Adrina) Minarik, Matt Minarik, Sarah (Chris), Isaac (Kristen), Travis (Jen) and Amanda Mitchell; 10 Great grandchildren; sister Barbara Rewerts of Ovid, brother Gale (Donna) Henning of St. Johns; sisters-in-Law Mary Beth Henning of St. Johns and Karen Henning of Indiana and brother- in-law Donald Lepard of Ovid. She was preceded in death by brothers Dale, Gerald and Richard Henning, sisters Beverly Henning, Joyce Russell and Madonna Lepard and two grandchildren, Gary Minarik and Terri Lynn Mitchell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. with Con-Celebrants Msgr. George Michalek and Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek, Pastor. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, March 15, 2012. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Wednesday and Thursday, 2-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
Mary Hudson Myers
Mary Hudson Myers passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the age of 94. She was born in Ovid, MI on December 20, 1917, the daughter of Delos A. Myers and Edna Hudson. Mary had two brothers who preceded her in death. John “Jack” Myers was killed in a plane crash during WWII. George H. Myers died in Ovid, MI in 2007.
Mary is survived by her sister in law Grace E. Myers of Ovid, nieces, Delores R. Wilson of Reading, MI, Ann E. Hegler of New Berlin, New York, Sandra K. Myers of Ovid, and nephews, John G. Myers of Perrinton, MI, and Jim G. Myers of Ovid.
Mary graduated from Ovid High School in 1935. She remained close to her classmates throughout her life. She graduated from what is now Central Michigan University in 1939. She was a teacher in Melvindale Northern Allen Park Schools for 44 years. Mary was an active member of Daughters of American Revolution, Daughters of American Colonist, Daughters of Union Veterans and Michigan Assoc. of Retired School Personnel. She also was a member of the Sheperdsville Library Club, which her mother had been active in. After retiring in 1985, she moved back to Ovid and lived at 131 E. Williams St. She renewed friendships in Ovid and became active in the Ovid Historical Society. In 2001, Mary donated her home, furnishings and antiques to the Ovid Historical Society.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at The Mary Myers Museum (131 E. Williams St., Ovid, MI) with Pastor Greg Buchner presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service at The Mary Myers Museum.

Eleanor J. Hicks
Eleanor J. Hicks, 79 of St. Johns, MI died on March 7, 2012 at Grace Haven Assisted Living Center. Eleanor was born on March 24, 1932 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Belisle) Johnston. She graduated from MacKenzie High School in Detroit. Eleanor married Argue Hicks and he preceded her in death in 1987. She had worked as a computer operator at Providence Hospital for many years. She enjoyed her family and fellowship of St. Johns Lutheran Church in St. Johns, and friends at Sun Tree Apartments.
Eleanor is survived by children Robert (Catherine) Hicks, Brenda (William)Zlotek and Timothy (Betsy) Hicks. Grandchildren, Robert (Jessica) and Cynthia Hicks, William, Amanda and Michael Zlotek, Cameron Hicks
along with step-granddaughters Morgan and Kayla. Great grandchildren Daisy and Colton. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Dorothy Karaschin and brother James Johnston.
Memorial services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 17, 2012. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 P.M. until service time. Memorials may be given in Eleanor’s honor to Ingham County Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. On behalf of our Mother we would like to express our sincere thanks to the people at Grace Haven Assisted Living Center for the care and compassion shown to our Mom.

Jerry R. Schoendorf, age 81, died March 8, 2012.
Beloved husband of Avis Schoendorf. Dear father of Tim ( Jacqueline ) and Dann ( Laura ) Schoendorf and Kari ( Mark ) Galbreath. Loving grandfather of Krista ( Shaun ) Williams, Nicholas, Abigail, Jillian, Taylor and Cole Schoendorf and Molly and Amy Galbreath and great grandfather of MacKenzie and Paige. Dear brother of Eugene ( Mary Jane ) Schoendorf.

Joyce M. Beebee
Joyce M. Beebee died Wednesday March 7, 2012 at the age of 69. Born April 16, 1942 she was the daughter of Robert and Milda (Marr) Beebee.
Joyce is survived by her brother, Roger (Judy) Beebee, niece, Annette (Michael); nephews, Michael (Kristin) Beebee, Jason (Tricia) Beebee, Kevin Beebee, as well as 7 grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns, with Pastor Chuck Emmert officiating. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11-1 PM prior to the service. Memorial donations will be made to a charity of her family’s choice.

Donald Wood
Donald Richard Wood died March 8, 2012. Born on April 30, 1915 to Clinton and Myrtle Wood, Don was a lifelong resident of Pewamo. He married Mary Ann Cook, his high school classmate, on June 7, 1938. Married nearly 69 years, they were the longest married couple in Pewamo’s history.
There were six children: Patricia “Pat” Wood, Bill (Janet) Wood, Fred (Joann) Wood, Kathy (Paul) Grantz, Jenny (Carl) Shangraw, and Mike (Kathy) Wood; 19 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Mary Ann, Pat and Bill preceded him in death.
Don was a farmer who worked hard, but played harder. He will be remembered as adventurous, energetic, a great story teller, teaser and someone who thoroughly enjoyed playing pranks on family and friends. He loved traveling and visited almost every state and was a member of The Knights of Columbus in Pewamo. His greatest passion though, was fishing, anywhere, anytime, with anyone. The Wood Family wishes to especially thank the Green Acres staff as well as Ionia Area Hospice for their loving care.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo, with Fr. Charlon Mason presiding. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at St. Mary’s Chapel in Westphalia with the Rosary being prayed at 3 PM and 8 PM.
