St. Johns to participate in National Night Out

August 7, 2012
St. Johns city residents are invited to take part in our 19th annual “National Night Out” event Tuesday, August 7, 2011, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The community can come together, once again, to get to know their neighbors and join forces against crime. Bring the whole family and enjoy the best National Night Out yet! We will have the Animals Around the World show, K-9 shows, inflatables, games for the kids, food and drinks, ice cream and giveaways – all free!
The St. Johns Police Department is coordinating the event. Police-community partnerships, neighborhood safety, awareness and cooperation are important themes of the “National Night Out 2012” program.
Due to the generosity of the St. Johns Lutheran Church, the main event will again be held in their yard at the corner of Sturgis St. and Business 27. Youth T-ball games from the City of St. Johns summer rec programs will be played. Free hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks provided by Big Boy Restaurant, McDonald’s and Kroger will be served.
The St. Johns Lions Club will be there handing out ice cream sandwiches to keep everyone cool! The popular inflatables are back sponsored by Osgood Funeral Home, Martin Brower Restaurant Supply, Clinton County Federal Credit Union, Olympian Tool and Keck-Coleman Funeral Home as well as games for the kids.
New this year is an animal show Animals Around the World beginning at 6:00 as well as K-9 shows by the St. Johns Police Department K-9 and Cher Car Kennels. The St. Johns Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs will assist with the kid’s activities and grilling. Clinton Area Ambulance Service and the St. Johns Fire Department will be displaying their vehicles and equipment. Everyone’s favorite dogs, McGruff and Firepup, will be on hand to entertain the kids!
National Night Out provides a unique opportunity for St. Johns to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting cooperative, police-community crime prevention efforts. It is essential that all citizens of St. Johns be aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and impact that their participation can have on reducing crime, drugs and violence in the city of St. Johns.
Please join us on Tuesday, August 7, 2011 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church and help “take a bite out of crime!”
