Lois A. Scranton
Lois A. Scranton died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the age of 64. She was born June 14, 1948 in St. Johns the daughter of Donald and Thelma (Brown) Bird. Lois was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing and was involved with Relay for Life. On June 8, 1973 she married Jon Scranton and he survives her.
Also surviving are her children, Brian (Brooke) Devereaux and Amy (Bob) McCain, all of DeWitt, Tim (Sonya) Devereaux of Maple Rapids, Shannan (Jason) Gillian of Brighton and Patrick Scranton of Lansing; seven grandchildren; one great grandson; her mother, Thelma Auer of St. Johns; three sisters, Darlene Ryan of St. Johns, Judy Osborne of Blanchard, Vicky (Dave) Yahr of Palo; three step-sisters, Colleen (Phil) Lemke and Roseann Auer all of Grand Ledge, Roxanne Shawl of FL. She was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Gene Bird and one step-sister, Cindy Campbell.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 511 E. Sturgis, St. Johns with Rev. Dr. Bryan Salminen officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Mid-Michigan Office 1755 Abbey Rd. East Lansing, MI 48823. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.
David LaPeer
David LaPeer, age 89, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his residence. He was born on September 19, 1923 in East Jordan, MI the son of Sherman and Izlee (Busler) LaPeer. Dave served his country in World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the 40 et 8. He worked most of his years as a heavy equipment operator at Sargent’s Construction Company and was a member for 50 years of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #324. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and playing slot machines. He also loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On March 2, 1946, he married Irene Schaub in Traverse City and they were married for 44 years. She preceded him in death in 1990.
He is survived by his children William LaPeer of St. Johns, Sue (Dale) Ladisky of Elsie and Chuck (Pat) LaPeer of St. Johns; brother Billy LaPeer of East Jordan; grandchildren Kelly (Treena) Ladisky, Kevin (Angie) Ladisky, Shannon (Barry) Kiel, Corey Ladisky, Angela (Michael) Burgess, Kristie (Wesley) Sova, Tiffany LaPeer and Jeremy LaPeer; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ronald and Niles; sisters, Alice, Lena, and Lillian.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday November 30, 2012 at Mount Rest Cemetery in St. Johns, with Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Military honors will be provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. For those desiring, donations may be made in memory of Dave to Great Lakes Caring 1011 South US-27, St. Johns, MI 48879. The family is being served by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home St. Johns.
Howard J. “Jim” Glass, Jr.
Howard J. “Jim” Glass, Jr. passed away at home November 24, 2012 at the age of 89. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 1, 1922, the son of Howard B. and Evangeline (VanBreemen) Glass. Jim was an accomplished graphic artist who spent many years designing buildings and advertising. Jim started his career after World War II at the Ford Motor Company. He continued his interest in automobiles by restoring Model T’s and was a member of the “Tinkering T’s” car club. He was also a founding member of the Maple Rapids Lions Club. Jim married Lois Anderson on October 27, 1961 in Wayne, Michigan and she survives him.
He is also survived by his children, Annette (Jeff) Chaney and Randy (Kate) Glass; his grandchildren, Mary and Beth Anne Chaney and Audrey, Kelly and Lilly Glass; sisters, Winifred Maniez, Mildred Domanke, Judy (Dick) Houghton and Jan Gill and brother, Milton (Mary) Glass. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald, Ronald and infant brother, Leonard Glass.
A private graveside service was held Monday November 26, 2012 at the Lowe Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Resurrection Life Church 714 S. Main St. St. Louis, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
