Special Olympics adds bowling ramp with memorial funds

The late Joe Braska was his son Jeremy’s partner for Unified Bowling throughout many tournaments.
Jeremy Braska has been bowling with Special Olympics for several years. His dad, Joe Braska, was his partner for Unified Bowling for many tournaments. Jeremy loved bowling with his dad. When Joe died recently, family and friends donated to Clinton County Special Olympics in his memory. Some of those funds were used to purchase a bowling ramp for athletes who are unable to throw the ball down the alley the conventional way.
Clinton County has added several new ramp bowlers to their group in the past few years. It is especially helpful for the bowlers to be able to use the same ramp at tournaments that they use for practice. We will all remember fondly the smiles on Joe and Jeremy’s faces when they bowled together when we pull the ramp out to set up for practice and tournaments.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
If you know someone who lives in Clinton County and who would like to compete as a Special Olympics Athlete please contact the Area 28 Director, Debbie Cornell.
Also consider being a volunteer. Special Olympics Michigan would not exist today, nor be as successful as it is, without the help of the thousands of people who dedicate their time, energy, and especially their enthusiasm to making the world a more accepting place.
Being a volunteer is all about finding what moves you, and the right opportunity to get involved. That opportunity starts here. Your first step is to know what roles you can be a part of. Whether you want to volunteer for a single day’s event, several hours a week, or year-round, we have a place for you. For more information, contact Debbie Cornell @ 517-669-7704 or email somia28@frontier.com or go to the Special Olympics Michigan homepage at somi.org. There is also a facebook page where you can view pictures and keep up with our news. It is “Special Olympics Area 28”.
Mark your calendars: The annual Area 28 Golf outing will be June 15th at Highland Hills.
