Carol Yvonne Foster
Carol Yvonne Foster, age 75, of Barryton, MI formerly of St. Johns, MI died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, 2057 N. Lansing Street, St. Johns, MI on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Cayle Beagle officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Carol was born in Perry, MI on November 26, 1937, the daughter of Donald and Donna (Barret) Harris. Carol formerly worked as a dietitian at Sparrow Clinton Hospital and was a member of the First Congregational Church, St. Johns, MI. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening and watching birds. Carol especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her 6 children, son Rick and Renee Foster of Eaton Rapids, MI, daughter Chris and Ricky Halfman of Evart, MI, daughter Lori Vallance of Barryton, MI, daughter Cam Bond and Wayne Karber of St. Johns, MI, son Steven Foster and Jerome Ginsburg of New Mexico and son James and Maryanne Foster of West Bloomfield, MI, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Sue and Ralph Moeggenberg of St. Johns, MI, sister-in-law Shirley Foster of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by both husbands; Richard Foster and James Bond and 3 brothers; Ron, Robert and John Harris.

Alan James Carroll
Alan James Carroll passed away suddenly on February 8, 2013 at the age of 49. Born on January 1, 1964 in St. Johns, he was the son of James and Catherine (Findlay) Carroll. Alan married Kristin (Kloeckner) on October 14, 1995 in St. Johns and she survives him. Alan was an electrical engineering manager with Lansing Board of Water and Light.
Alan is also survived by his two children, Jamie and Jared Carroll, his parents, James Carroll and Catherine Carroll, sisters, Peggy (David) Steiniger, Cheryl (Ruben) Nodarse, mother-in-law, Jenine Kloeckner, sisters-in-law, Kim Kloeckner, Shelly McDonald, Kelly (Joerg) Mossbrucker, Korine (John) Hoffman, as well as his nieces and nephews, Sarah and AJ Nodarse, Jon Steiniger, Alexsis, Nicolas and Claudia Mossbrucker, Tyler, Jacob and Hannah Hoffman.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Leroy Kloeckner.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, with Fr. Michael Williams presiding. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. with rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. at Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns.

Judy Bozung
Judy Bozung passed away on February 10, 2013, at the age of 73. Born January 8, 1940 in Carson City, MI, she was the daughter of George and Ella (Baxter) Krauss. Judy married Raymond Bozung on February 17, 1962 in Hubbardston and he preceded her in death on September 16, 2011.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Sally Bozung, Virginia (Paul) VanElls, Sarah (Duane) Becker, one son, Mike Bozung, grandchildren, Tyler (Melissa) Becker, Bradley Becker, Erika Becker, Jake VanElls, Alex VanElls, great grandson, Liam Becker, and sisters, Lila Stevens and Polly (Paul) Matheson. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Raymond Bozung.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February, 14, 2013 with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with rosaries being prayed at 8 p.m. both nights, at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler, MI. A memorial contribution will be made to a charity of her family’s choice.

Myrtle Belle Findlay
Myrtle Belle Findlay, age 99, passed away February 6, 2013 in St. Johns, Michigan. Myrtle was born November 20, 1913 in Essex Township the daughter of Raymond and Ivah (Jury) Green. She was a teacher before she married Loree Findlay on September 1, 1937 and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2006. Myrtle was known for her laughter, love of sewing and delicious meals. No one ever left her home hungry. She shared her cooking talents at the Salt Box House Restaurant, Clinton Memorial Hospital and St. Johns Schools cafeteria. Most of all, Myrtle was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Myrtle is survived by her children, Catherine (James) Carroll of St. Johns, John “Jack” (Claire) Findlay of Spring Lake, Janet (Owen) Orndorff of Boise, ID, Jean (Dennis) Tuttle of Spring, TX, 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Myrtle is also survived by her sister, Alice Bullard, sister-in-law, Glenna Findlay and brother-in-law, Edwin (Kathleen) Beattie. Myrtle was also preceded in death by Esther and Lawrence Crosby, Sam and Omah Green, Ruth and Neil Ferguson, Paul Bullard, Donald Green, Trudy and Dale Boyles, Hazel Beattie, and Don Findlay.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns, Michigan with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating, burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Advantage, 801 South Waverly Rd., Suite 304, Lansing, MI 48917.

Elaine M. “Skip” Gavenda

Elaine M. “Skip” Gavenda died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the age of 67. She was born April 16, 1945 in Carson City, MI the daughter of George and Julia (Makara) Gavenda. She was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Class of 1963 and was retired from General Motors. “Skip” enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing pool and going to the casino and she loved spending time with her friends.
Surviving is her brother, George (Vikki) Gavenda of Laingsburg; two nieces, Cathy (James) Sytek of Ashley and Beth (Roy) Hollis of St. Johns; three great nieces and one great nephew; close friends Carmen, Jerry and Lori and many other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 6 – 8 PM Tuesday and from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice for Clinton County P.O. Jack V. Miller
Jack V. Miller passed away on February 8, 2013 at the age of 85. Jack was born August 15, 1927 in Clinton County, MI to Clare and Elsie Pearl (Moffatt) Miller. He served in the US Army and was a life-long farmer. On January 17, 1959 Jack married Marilyn Ordway in Ovid, and she survives him.
Also surviving are his children, Sue (Don) Strait of DeWitt, Donald (Billie Canfield) Miller of Ovid, Jack (Moji) Miller, Jr. of DeWitt; grandchildren, Steven (Jessica Cole) Miller, Matthew Strait, McKayla, Kathleen, Cameron, and Evan Miller; great grandchildren, Renin Cole and Rebecca Miller; brother, Ronald (Mary) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law; Violet and John Curtis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak Street, Ovid, MI. Jack’s family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, 1169 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.

Thelma H. Stump
Thelma H. Stump, 75 of St. Johns, MI died at Ashley Care Center on February 8, 2013. She was born on November 21, 1937 in Gratiot County, MI the daughter of Walter and Viola (Thelen) Harr. Thelma graduated from Fowler High School in 1956 and on October 10, 1956 she married Eugene W. Stump in Fowler. Thelma had worked for over 20 years at J. C. Penney Co. in St. Johns. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, cooking, baking, camping and did volunteer work at the St. Vincent De Paul store.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene; son, Kurt (Kendra) Stump of Reading, MI; daughters, Cindy (Mike) Mowen of Dearborn Heights, Chery (Pat) Goff of St. Johns, Rene Brogan and fiancé Tim Cranis of Winter Park, Florida, Bev Ballinger of St. Johns, Kim (Marvin) Stoneman of Ashley, Deanna (Steve) Schaefer of Plymouth, MN; 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Stanley (Laura) Harr of Lansing and Leon (Sue) Harr of St. Johns and sister, Marie McMillan of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Michelle (1989) and son in law, Jeff Ballinger (2008).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday February 11, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Fr. Dwight Ezop officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday February 9, 2013, 6-8 P.M. and on Sunday February 10, 2013 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. A scripture service will be held at 8:00 P.M on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be given to St. Joseph Catholic School Education Fund or St. Vincent De Paul Society. The family would like to thank the Staff of Ashley Care Center for the outstanding care that Thelma received.


Edwin H. Boettger
Edwin H. Boettger, 95, passed away on February 7, 2013. Born on June 27, 1917 in Fowler, MI he was the son of Henry and Anna (Fasking) Boettger. Edwin married Veronica Galvach in Fowler on September 20, 1939 and they spent 72 wonderful years of marriage together. Veronica preceded him in death on July 11, 2011.
Edwin is survived by his children, Sharon (Don Randolph) Backus of Las Vegas, NV, Ed (Rosemary) Boettger of Conifer, CO, Barry (Judy) Boettger of St. Johns, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Veronica Boettger, three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013, at the St. Johns Lutheran Church, with Pastor Brian Salminen officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Memorial donations may be made to the Clinton County Senior Center or St. Johns Lutheran Church.

Richard D. Brenner D.V.M.
Richard D. Brenner D.V.M. of Ovid and Hale, Michigan, age 70, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Richard graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 1967, and in 1973 was the co-founder of the Ovid-Elsie Animal Clinic in Ovid, Michigan. Dr. Brenner was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Michigan Veterinary Medical Association.
He was active in the Ovid Lions Club for many years and was involved in Scouting through the Chief Okemos Council of the Boy Scouts of America. After his retirement he worked for eight summers as a counselor at the Northwoods Scout Reservation. His favorite activity to teach was fishing which gave him ample opportunity to share his dry sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Suzanne (Smith) Brenner, son Tom Brenner of Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter, Melissa Brenner of Ovid, and her significant other Chris Gunderman. Also by special friends and godchildren Scott and Desiree Thomas, Dylan, Olivia, and Donovan. He was preceded in death by his father Reynold Brenner and mother Doris (Weaver) Brenner.
Per request cremation has taken place. Memorial services will take place at the Michigan State University alumni chapel on February 17, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. and at Northwoods Scout Reservation later in the Spring. Arrangements were made by the Buresh Funeral Homes, 121 S. Washington, Hale, Michigan. Donations may be made to the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, 784 Wilson Road Room G-100, East Lansing, MI. 48824, or the Friends of the Northwoods, PO Box 356, Leslie, Michigan 49251.
