While nearly 60 parents, visitors and friends looked on, eight middle school students from three districts in Clinton County displayed their artistic talents during the March 10 Sunday Event at Clinton County Arts Council’s Gallery in St. Johns.
According to Gallery Director Michael Muehlenbeck, no actual count was taken, but approximately 75 persons overall attended the 1-3 p.m. open house sponsored by St. Johns Rotary Club, with some arriving after the students had departed.
Invitations were sent to all middle schools in the county, but student-artists from only three responded, bringing samples of their works to the event. Muehlenbeck explained that the student invitation is an annual occurrence normally extended to senior high students. “This year we decided to invite the younger group,” he said, “and we are impressed with the work they brought with them. Indeed, a fine display of talent.”
Students participating included Lauren Wholtjen, Elena Lippert and riley Biosanic, all from DeWitt Junior High; Kaitlynne Underwood, John Peterson and Davon Cooper from Ovid-Elsie Middle School and Nina Cuthrell and Yulia Fox, both from Bath Middle School.
Next month’s Sunday Event will be held April 4 featuring Pam Schuster, a glass blowing artist who will display some fascinating pieces. That gathering will be sponsored by Al’s Aerial Spraying.
