St. Johns Relay For Life a Huge success

Event isn’t possible without the support of students, volunteers and local business support.
Mike Zigler, chair of this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life® committee in St. Johns, concluded this year’s Relay For Life event with big numbers.
Mike thanks the St. Johns community for their generosity and support because this event isn’t possible without their donations and help at every level. Twenty-five teams participated in this year’s event and raised more than $120,000 to help the Society’s fight for every birthday. If you did not get a chance to donate, there is still time.
The St. Johns Relay For Life website will be taking donations through August to continue the fight. The local community showing outstanding support proves that the people of St. Johns stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the American Cancer Society to achieve its mission of saving lives by helping people stay well by helping people get well, by finding cures and fighting back.
We were honored to be joined by 183 participants who camped and walked the opening Survivors Lap, officially kicking off this year’s event. Our local friends, neighbors and survivors are the reason the committee and participants continue the fight. Their participation inspires hope in those currently battling cancer.
A special thanks to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success – celebrating the lives of those who have battled cancer, remembering loved ones lost, and pledging to fight back against the disease. The committee extends a very special thanks to the St. Johns High School students of the National Honor Society and RESA that assisted with set up, assistance during the event and take down on Saturday. Their hard work was outstanding. This sends a clear message that the students in our community are an amazing group of young people with a great support system leading the way.
The committee hopes that you will consider volunteering for next year’s event. The journey to end cancer starts with a single step. The American Cancer Society invites you to take that step with us by joining the global Relay For Life movement. When you walk to end cancer at a Relay event, it’s your opportunity to not only honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost, but also to raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from cancer and raise
money to help fuel the world’s largest walk to end cancer. It’s a chance to support your friends, family and community as we continue to celebrate more and more birthday.
