Interesting Read and more
Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Moss is a fascinating yet terrifying look into the world’s largest processed food companies. He details the tactics used by these companies to encourage Americans to eat more of their products explaining how their desire to increase market share and make astronomical profits is having an adverse effect on the health of the average American. As the salt, sugar and fat content in their products have increased so has the number of individuals, who are obese, diabetic and/or have high blood pressure. The scary part is that the CEOs, food scientists, marketing executives of these companies and even the government know that the enormous amounts of salt, sugar and fat in our diets are negatively impacting the nation’s health and costing the county billions in rising health care expenses. A truly informing read that will have you taking a second look at the food you put in your grocery cart.
Puzzled?
No need to be. The Library now has more than thirty boxed puzzles that can be checked out. Piece count ranges from 500-1000. You can check them out for up to three weeks. They vary in topic and shape. If you have puzzles that are in extremely good condition, have all their pieces and the box is in good shape consider donating them to the Library for inclusion in our new collection. A “community puzzle” is in the Library on which you can test your skills.
Schwan’s Fundraiser
The Schwan’s truck will be in front of the Briggs Public Library on Tuesday, June 18th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to assist the library in raising funds for the purchase of materials. Up to 20% of the funds taken in from the fundraiser will be donated to the Library. There are four ways you can participate in the fundraiser:
1. Purchase items the day of the event.
2. Pick up a paper order form from the Library, select items you wish to purchase and turn it back into the Library by Tuesday June 11th. Items will be delivered to the Library the day of the event and payment can be made at that time.

4. Order a gift certificate(s) by calling 1-888-SCHWANS, inform the representative you want to purchase a gift card(s) and provide the campaign Id: 43179 or go to www.schwan’s.com, click on the gift card link and follow the directions including entering the campaign Id: 43179 on the right side of the screen under Gift Cards for Fund Raising and click submit. Gift certificates are a great way to help the library and still support your local driver if you are already receiving delivery at your residence. Gift certificates also make great gifts. For additional details on the fundraiser, stop by the library desk or call (989)224-4702.
