Elvis closes out Concert in the Park season
People who have enjoyed Matt King’s Elvis Presley Tribute Show in previous years at St. Johns Concert in the Park probably have already noted Aug. 28 on their calendars , or more likely, techno devices. That’s when the “Hound Dog” is set to return for the 2013 season finale – just like the past four years.
King is “Elvis,” as guests will affirm once again when he takes the stage at the St. Johns City Park Performance Shell. The show begins at 7 p.m.; no admission charge.
“We’re pleased to have Matt King back again as Elvis,” says Performance Shell Committee Chairperson Bill Tennant. “Our audiences love him, and his appearance is a perfect ending to the the summer schedule.”
A resident of Leslie, King has travelled all over the United States and Europe entertaining audiences with his unique ability to bring to the “King” to life via his moves, mannerisms, looks and costuming – and, of course, his distinctive voice.
He’s earned national and international acclaim for the Elvis show he’s been performing on a professional level for the past 20 years. Among his many honors are first place awards in 2007 in the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort’s Elvis Contest, and the 2004 Elvis European Championship.
“Some guys choreograph every move,” King says. “I try to capture the way Elvis expressed himself – how he moved his hand, shook his leg or held the mic.”
Concessions at Concert in the Park are available by the St. Johns Lions and Lioness Club.
Concert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the city of St. Johns, with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
