Get Connected @ Briggs and more
Briggs Library is offering a new computer class this fall. “Making the Most of MeL” will offer training on some of the Michigan eLibrary’s most popular databases. Topics covered will include getting materials through interlibrary loan, receiving book recommendations, and utilizing homework help for all grade levels. We will also show how to access practice tests for AP classes, college entrance exams, job skills, and more. Participants can choose between two sessions of this workshop offered on Wednesday, September 18from 10-11a.m. OR Wednesday, September 25 from 1-2p.m. A valid library card is required to attend this program, and registration begins on Wednesday, August 28.
Adult Book Clubs
The September selection for the library’s adult book clubs is now available at the circulation desk. Both clubs will be reading “The Other Wes Moore,” which traces the lives of two boys named Wes Moore. The boys were born blocks apart within a year of each other. Both lived in fatherless homes, both hung out on the streets, and both had trouble with the police. One of the boys grew up to be a Rhodes Scholar, White House Fellow, and business leader, while the other led a life of violence and imprisonment. Wes Moore, the author of this fascinating book, attempts to determine how two boys that started life on such similar paths, could have ended in such drastically different circumstances.
Patrons can choose between two book club sessions. Both will meet Thursday, September 19. The first session will meet at 12p.m. at the library, and participants are welcome to bring a light lunch if they would like. The Bookaholics will meet at their regular time of 7:30p.m. at Bruno’s Bar in downtown St. Johns, and participants should be ages 21 and over.
