James J. Kellogg
James J. Kellogg died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the age of 90. He was born May 19, 1923 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of William and Lydia (Borton) Kellogg. He was an Army veteran of WWII and retired from Federal Mogul Corp. where he made many lifelong friends. Jim enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and loved to read. Thanks to the Lyons Township District Library that has kept him stocked with large print books the past few years. He liked to travel, and enjoyed trips to New Mexico and to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to visit family and friends. Jim was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and loved to golf getting two holes-in-one in his lifetime.
Surviving are two daughters, Pam (Dan) Chubb of St. Johns and Vicki Kellogg of Harrison; step-children, Gerald (Carol) Burgtorf of Fowler and Patsy Mull of Greenville, MI; several grandchildren; long time friend and companion, Alice Stump of Pewamo and her family, and was known as “Uncle Bud” to his nieces and nephews. On December 8, 1948 he married Nellie Sherman Burgtorf and she preceded him in death in 1995. He was also predeceased by a brother, Cecil and a step-son Robert Burgtorf.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date. Eric James Mohnke
Eric James Mohnke, 61 of St. Johns, MI died on August 25, 2013 at University of Michigan Hospital. Eric was born on January 24, 1952 in St. Johns the son of E. James and Marietta (Emmons) Mohnke. He graduated from St. Johns high School in 1969 and then Lansing Community College, receiving his Associates Degree in 1973. On December 28, 1973 he married Frances A. Riley. Eric was an appraiser for Clinton County and was Supervisor of Bengal Township. Eric was the treasurer of Clinton Area Ambulance Service, an ambulance board member, member of the Clinton County Assessors Association and an avid Tiger fan. He was a baseball card collector, buying and selling them, operated Rainbo Decorating for 20 years doing painting and wallpapering, was a member of First United Methodist Church, was a trustee for the church, and was on the usher team.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, daughters Elizabeth Mohnke of Lansing, Diana Mohnke at home and Kimberly Mohnke, a student at Albion College; parents, Jim and Marietta Mohnke of St. Johns, sister Susan (Jim) Schaefer of St. Johns and brother Dan (Kim) Mohnke of South Bend, IN.; mother-in-law, Carolyn (Ed) Cox of St. Johns, MI. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Leo Riley and step father-in-law, Joe VanRooyen.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ellen Zienert officiating. Julia O. Jenereaul
Julia O. Jenereaul passed away on August 25, 2013 at the age of 94. Born April 29, 1919, in Evart, MI. She was the daughter of Hugh and Winefred (Booth) Ellsworth.
Julia is survived by four children, Mildred (Stanley) Searles of St. Johns, Lavern (Althea) Frayer, Jr. of Marion, MI, Lionel Frayer, Sr. of Laingsburg and Marvin (Gina) Frayer of Farwell. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 27 great great grandchildren and three sisters, Florence Wickham, Betty (Fred) Fleischer and Patricia Wilson, all of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lavern Frayer, Sr., second husband, Mylo Jenereaul, son, Lawrence Frayer, grandson, Aaron Frayer, brothers, Orville, Harvey and Forrest Ellsworth, as well as her sister, Amy Wolf.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns, with Pastor Tom Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Curtis John Prohaska
Curtis John Prohaska, 33 of Traverse City, MI formerly of St. Johns died on Aug. 22, 2013 as the result of an automobile accident. Curtis was born on August 19, 1980 the son of John C. and Joann D. (Kruger) Prohaska. He was a 1999 graduate of St. Johns High School. While in high school he was a state qualifier all 4 years on the swim team. After high school he attended Full Sail University in Florida receiving his Associates Degree in Recording Arts. On December 16, 2006 he married Rebecca DeWitt in Whitehouse, Jamaica.
Curtis was recently employed with the Traverse Bay Area ISD as the Northport Schools IT Director. Curtis was a member of Club Fraser Mountain Biking Team, played drums, enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved the outdoors. He also was very skilled at carpentry work and was a gifted artist. Curtis was an organ donor and through his donations helped 4 recipients toward a better life.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca; his parents, John and Joann Prohaska of St. Johns, MI; brothers, Michael (Tanya) of Maple Rapids and Brian and fiancée Sarah Gray of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Hannah (Adam) Figlewicz of Crete, IL
3 nieces, Hailey and Ella Prohaska and Claire Geroux, and nephew Brendan Figlewicz; grandparents, Lawrence Kruger of DeWitt, MI., Richard and Helen Prohaska of DeWitt, Janalene Lawless and Ronald Hackworth both of Homer, MI; parents-in-law, Scott (Rebecca) DeWitt of Laingsburg, sister-in-law Jennifer (Chris) Geroux of Lapeer, MI; step brothers, Tom, Pete and David Jamieson and step sister, Christine Jamieson of CA. and his 2 dogs, Shipwreck and Schooner. He was preceded in death by his Grandmother, Delores Kruger, mother-in-law, Brenda DeWitt and grandparents Harry and Ida DeWitt.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St. Johns on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Burial will follow at South Bingham Cemetery.

Corrine T. Simonsen
Corrine T. Simonsen, 79 of St. Johns died at Hospice House of Mid Michigan on Friday, August 23, 2013. Corrine was born on March 12, 1934 in Bay City, MI the daughter of Herman and Blanche (Larivee) Schafer. She graduated from Detroit Mercy High School and received her teaching certificate from Sienna Heights College in Adrian, MI. and had taught school in several Public School Systems. On August 9, 1958 she married Frank Simonsen in Detroit, MI. He preceded her in death in 1998. Corrine loved gardening, music, bird watching, dogs and most of all her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura (Russell) Braun of Ovid and son Chris (Mary) Simonsen of Nashville, TN. Grandchildren, Beth Braun, Jill (Mick) Badik, Lisa Braun, Evelyn (Ryan) Gray, Alison (Scott) Huber and Andrew Braun.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid with Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Sunday, August 25, 2013, 6 to 8 P.M. Memorials may be made to Sparrow Hospice.
Carrie F. Rhynard
Carrie F. Rhynard, 86 of St. Johns, MI died on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Grace Haven Assisted Living. Carrie was born on Dec. 14, 1926 in St. Johns the daughter of Jesse and Frances (Severance) Winslow. Carrie worked at Rosevales Meat Packing plant in DeWitt, MI. On August 31, 1946 she married Mervin L. Rhynard and he died on December 12, 2009. Carrie was a member of the Pilgrim United Methodist Church, enjoyed working at Pilgrim Church Nursery, loved spending time with her grandchildren and flower gardening.
Surviving is her daughter, Crystal Ley of St. Johns and daughter-in-law, Kathy Rhynard of Gladwin; grandchildren, Jackie (Jon) Thomas, Nikki Ley, Brad (Nichole) Rhynard, Chad (Jennifer) Rhynard, Tasha (Mark) Sullivan, Kris (Kathy) Zerba, Karla (Kevin) Everingham and Kim DeAngelos; great grandchildren, Zachary, Sydney, Brenden and Stella Thomas, Caleb and Camden Rhynard, Kanen and Korey Zerba, Justin and Terry Eveland, Keric, Kaden and Kesen Everingham, Madison and Mateo DeAngelos; sister Doris Riddlel sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leola and Wilbur Thurston. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Corrie, son-in-law Dennis Ley, her in-laws, Edith and Lynn Rhynard; siblings, and in-laws, Letha (Harold) Wineland, Katherine (Lester) Christensen, Clare, Allen, and Arlene Winslow, Don Riddle, Guy and Barbara Winslow, Arola and Raymond Dellamater.
Funeral services will be held at Pilgrim United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ken Bremer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church on Saturday, 9A.M. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Pilgrim United Methodist Church, Grace Haven or Alzheimer’s Association. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home.
