Jameson William Arnett
Jameson William “Jamey” Arnett died suddenly Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the age of 7. He was born October 16, 2005 in Lansing, Michigan. Jamey liked playing sports with family and friends and loved riding bikes with his brothers. He was a member of the Work of Heart Organization and the Early On Great Start Group. Jamey was a student at Leonard Elementary School in Ovid and would have started second grade this fall.
Surviving are his birth parents, Kris Arnett of Lansing and Kathryn Arnett-Parker of Texas; adoptive parents, Tom and Sharon Arnett of St. Johns; two brothers, Riley and Keiran both at home; uncle, Jeremy Arnett of Lansing; great grandparents, John Arnett and Lois Horn-Arnett of Holt and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by great grandparents, Barbara Arnett, Doris Bonham and Marvin Cook.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Elder Earl Barks officiating. Anne M. Chapko
Anne M. Chapko, 87 of St. Johns, MI died on Monday, September 2, 2013. Anne was born on January 18, 1926 in Pompeii, MI the daughter of Ignatz and Pauline Bagan Kotora. She had worked on the family farm, ITT Hancock in Elsie from which she retired and then she worked at the I.G.A. store in St. Johns doing the baking and later at the Wheel Inn. She was active at St. Vincent’s. On January 22, 1944 she married Tony C. Chapko in Bannister, MI. He died on December 13, 1989. Anne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rosary Group and card club. She loved to bake, enjoyed her flower gardens and working in them, but she enjoyed her grand and great grandchildren the most.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Julie) Chapko of Phoenix AZ, Richard (Diane) Chapko of St. Johns and Dan (Julie) Chapko of St. Johns; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. A Rosary service will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorial may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Phyllis J. Isham
Phyllis J. Isham, 71 of Ovid, MI went to be with her Lord on September 1, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 8, 1942 in Williamston, MI the daughter of Leslie G. and Helen E. (Parmalee) Partridge. Phyllis graduated from Perry High School in 1960 and married Paul Harmon Nichols on August 27, 1960. He passed away in May of 1982 while serving on the Mission Field. On August 18, 1990 she married Clyde G. Isham in St. Johns, MI. She was active in the Mission Field most of her life, and served in Indonesia and Papua, New Guinea, active in the Gideon’s and Grove Bible Church. She also enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, gardening, scrapbooking and going to her grandchildren’s sporting events.
She is survived by her husband Clyde, children Paul Nichols of Ovid, his wife Patty Jo of Elsie, Philip (Karry) Nichols of St. Johns, Pete (Sherry) Nichols of Elsie, Pat (Janet) Nichols of Owosso and Perry (Teresa) Nichols of Leslie. Step children, Gary (Karen) Isham of TX, James (Jeanie) Isham of IN, Diane (Steve) Bartell of SC, and Cheryl (Pastor Tim) Tanner of Harrison, MI; mother, Helen Partridge of Williamston and mother-in-law Fern Nichols of St. Johns; son-in-law, Court (Bonnie) Longbrook of NC; sisters, Dorothy Runyon of Williamston and Elaine (Richard) Rosen of Howell; brothers, Jim (Beth) Partridge and John (Marilyn) Partridge both of Williamston and Gary Partridge of CA. 42 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous extended family members. Phyllis was preceded in death by her step-daughter Linda Isham Longbrook, her father Leslie Gale Partridge, father in law, Frederick Vernon Nichols, brothers-in-law Jim George and Lorne Nichols and sister in law Deanna Gyale Nichols.
Funeral services for Phyllis will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 with Pastor Tim Tanner officiating. Burial will follow at Middlebury Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Edward C. Clark
Edward C. Clark of St. Johns, MI and formerly of Elmore, OH passed away September 1, 2013 at the age of 92. Born January 12, 1921 in East St. Louis, IL he was the son of Patrick and Mary (Welker) Clark. Edward worked as a Boilermaker, was a member of the Boilermaker’s Union Local #85 where he served as President and Business Agent, was a founding member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Walbridge, OH, and was a former Commissioner of the Ohio State Lottery Commission. In his retirement years, Edward enjoyed golfing with his friends at Sugar Creek Golf Course in Elmore, OH.On September 4, 1954 he married Dolores Chulick and she survives him.
Also surviving are his son, Daniel (Margherita) Clark of St. Johns, MI; daughter, Genell (Don) Santoni of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter, Melissa (Josh) Drossel; great grandson Nathan; and several nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 W Saginaw St Lansing, MI 48915. No services will be held at this time. The family was served by Osgood Funeral Homes.
Clare J. Pung
Clare J. Pung passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the age of 85. Born May 18, 1928 in Fowler, he was the son of Norman T. and Martha (Simon) Pung. Clare was a Pioneer Seed salesman and a member of the American Legion Post #187.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Teresa (Rademacher) Pung, four children, Karen (Jay) Johnson, Kenneth (Virgene) Pung, Kathryn (Mike) Miller, Linda (Jack) Terry; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Mark Pung, Paul (Eugenia) Pung and one sister, Mary Ellen (Robert) Thelen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerome Pung and sister-in-law, Daria.
Clare was a man of faith and family. He was a farmer most of his life and a Veteran of the Korean War. He will be remembered as a hardworking, loving and caring man, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 106 East Street, Pewamo. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with The Rosary being prayed at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 8 p.m., at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler.
Stephen B. Fitzpatrick
Stephen Bruce Fitzpatrick, 36 of St. Johns, MI died Friday, August 30, 2013 at Sparrow Hospital. He was born on January 11, 1977 in St. Johns, the son of Stuart L. and Sharon K. (Motz) Fitzpatrick. Stephen graduated from St. Johns High School in 1995 and was attending Lansing Community College studying Environmental Engineering. He also did roofing work and had worked at Wayne Dalton and Save-A-Lot. Stephen enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing cribbage, travels to Colorado and spending time with his kids.
He is survived by his parents, Stuart and Sharon of St. Johns, fiancé Erika Webster, children Clarisse E. and Connor E. Fitzpatrick of St. Johns; sisters, Soni (Tim) Havens and Sharissa Fitzpatrick and her fiancé Geno Clark of St. Johns; brothers, Sean (Mandy) Fitzpatrick of Waterville, Ohio, Shannon (Amy) Fitzpatrick of St. Johns, step daughter Kendahl Smeltzer of St. Johns; nieces and nephews, Brendan, Kieran, Corbin Fitzpatrick, Emily and T.J. Havens. Landon, Ella, Greyson Fitzpatrick and Austin Clark; great niece Leilah Akins, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Wednesday September 4, 2013, 5-8 P.M. and on Thursday, September 5, 2013, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be given at Journey Federal Credit Union for his children.
Winifred L. “Whitey” Whitefield
Winifred L. “Whitey” Whitefield, age 93, of St. Johns, MI died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Springbrook Hills Church of Christ, 11960 Norris Road, DeWitt, MI on Monday, September 2, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Jim Gothup officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at South Bingham Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI.
Whitey was born in Lakeview, Texas on May 5, 1920, the son of Wesley and Ada (Lawrence) Whitefield. Whitey married Lena Mae Rumsey on August 21, 1943; she preceded him in death on July 17, 1999. Whitey served his country in the Army during WWII. He formerly owned his own farm and retired from the Centrifugal Fusing Company in 1982. Whitey resided in Texas for 20 years and California for 3 years and the Mid-Michigan area since. He enjoyed bowling. He was a member of Springbrook Hills Church of Christ DeWitt, MI.
Whitey is survived by his sister Loiselle Bos of Oklahoma, close friends; Pat and Jack Ruggis of Grand Ledge, MI, Judy and Jim Gothup of St. Johns, MI, and Brenda and Mike Hudson of Grand Ledge, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Ronald Whitefield, and sister Mildred Morris.

James J. Kellogg
James J. Kellogg died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the age of 90. He was born May 19, 1923 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of William and Lydia (Borton) Kellogg. He was an Army veteran of WWII and retired from Federal Mogul Corp. where he made many lifelong friends. Jim enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and loved to read. Thanks to the Lyons Township District Library that has kept him stocked with large print books the past few years. He liked to travel, and enjoyed trips to New Mexico and to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to visit family and friends. Jim was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and loved to golf getting two holes-in-one in his lifetime.
Surviving are two daughters, Pam (Dan) Chubb of St. Johns and Vicki Kellogg of Harrison; step-children, Gerald (Carol) Burgtorf of Fowler and Patsy Mull of Greenville, MI; several grandchildren; long time friend and companion, Alice Stump of Pewamo and her family, and was known as “Uncle Bud” to his nieces and nephews. On December 8, 1948 he married Nellie Sherman Burgtorf and she preceded him in death in 1995. He was also predeceased by a brother, Cecil and a step-son Robert Burgtorf.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date. The family will receive relatives and friends 4-8 PM Friday, August 30 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lyons Township District Library, P.O.
