Elaine Janet Rise
Elaine Janet Rise passed away at home on September 7, 2013. We will miss her love of flowers, quilting, and garage sales; her presence in our lives as a loving wife, mother and friend; her generosity with others in thought and gift; and her optimistic, kind, considerate, and encouraging ways.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jon Rise, her daughter, Kathryn Garrett Rise Humphrey, son-in-law, Reginald Humphrey, grandchildren, Landis and Saxon, and sisters Lois Shannon and Diane Chester. She is preceded in death by her mother, Velma Schutt Garrett and father, Harry Garrett.
Elaine was born in Jackson, MIin 1942. She grew up in Pontiac and graduated from Pontiac Central High School. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a BBA in Accounting. In 1965, while living in Royal Oak, she was one of the first women professionals hired in the Finance Department at Ford Motor Company. In 1971 she and Jon moved to Lewiston where she managed Jon’s law practice, until getting elected as the Supervisor and Assessor of Albert Township.
Elaine later moved to St. Johns and worked as the Director of Finance for Delhi Charter Township until retiring in 2002. Through the years Elaine was an active member of the Lewiston Co-op Nursery School, Lewiston Curling Club, Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum, Clinton County Historical Society, and Peacemakers quilt group. She was also a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 3pm at the Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum, 106 Maple Street, St. Johns, MI48879. Additional time for reflection and remembrance will be from 2pm to 3pm within the museum. It was Elaine’s wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum (P.O. Box 174, St. Johns, MI 48879).

Michael San Miguel Sr.
Michael “Famous Mike” San Miguel Sr., age 59, of Adrian, MI died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, MI on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 5-8 P.M. and Friday, September 13, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Michael was born in Alma, MI on February 19, 1954, the son of Edward and Dominga (Quintero) San Miguel. He graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1973. Famous Mike formerly worked at Fisher Body, Little Caesars, Burcham Hills and Hayes Lemmerz. He was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in the Featherweight Division and State Champion. He enjoyed playing softball, baseball and football; he was an avid sports man.
Famous Mike is survived by his life partner Angelina Ables of Adrian, MI, 2 sons; Joshua “JD” San Miguel of St. Johns, MI, and Michael “Boo Boo” San Miguel and Courtney Seeley of St. Johns, MI, 8 grandchildren, brother Edward and Dalia San Miguel of Lansing, MI, sister Rose Marie San Miguel of Austin, TX, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and extended family; Chris and Amanda Ables of West Virginia, Nathan and Kaysi Ables of Adrian and Elton and Jessica Ables of St. Johns, MI. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Fred San Miguel.
Memorials may be made to the family. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, Michigan.


P. Donald Lewis
Patrick Donald Lewis, 57 of St. Johns, MI died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, September 6, 2013. Don was born on July 10, 1956 in Fayetteville, NC. the son of Floyd and Dorothy (Akin) Lewis. Don graduated from St. Johns High School in 1974 and was a self employed drywall contractor. On September 27, 1975 he married Barbara J. Moon the daughter of Bob and Jeannie Moon in St. Johns, MI. Don had been a wrestling coach at Lakeshore High School, enjoyed wrestling, working out, running and loved being busy and helping his kids.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Tonya (Kurt) Riley of Nashville, TN; Patrick (Kelly) Lewis of Grand Rapids, MI and Bronson Lewis of Nashville, TN; his father, Floyd Lewis of Florida and mother Dorothy of Lansing, MI; sisters, Pamela Powell of FL, Shyla (George) Lites of Williamston, MI, Brijette (Stacy) Byrd of Eaton Rapids and Nicole (Nick) Thompkins of Perry, MI; brother, Leonard Lewis of TN; grandchildren, Cole, Nevan and Ava Riley, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Young Ho Cho officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorial may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.


Wilfred S. Clark
Wilfred S. Clark died at the age of 92. Born March 5, 1921 in Buffalo, NY, Bill was the son of Stanley and Louise Clark. Bill joined a sister, Betty, and later another son, Ken, was born. The family moved to Detroit and there grew up with many friends. Bill joined the Air Force in 1943 in the Army Air Force and, while in service, he met and married his wife, Fay. He was discharged in California then came home to Michigan where he raised his family; two sons, Bill and Larry, and daughter, Linda.
He worked at Chaffee and Company for 28 years and became Sales Manager. Bill left in 1974 to buy his own Discount Store in Whitehall, MI. He sold the store in 1990 and moved to St. Johns, MI to be near his son and lovely family.
Bill bought his son’s theater in St. Johns and converted it to business offices, which he owned for 23 years. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post # 153 in St. Johns.
He is survived by his wife, Fay; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Jean Clark and Larry and Holly Clark; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Betty; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, brother, and granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Matthew Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service

Dorothy “Jean” Dunham
Dorothy “Jean” Dunham, age 86, of Elsie, MI died Friday, September 6, 2013. Born June 25, 1927 in Edenville, MI, Jean was the daughter of John and Adele (Boes) Bacon. She was a former teacher, a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, American Legion Auxiliary Unit #153, Elsie United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women. On August 6, 1949 Jean married Emerson Dunham and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Pamela Dunham of Elsie, MI; granddaughters; Jennifer Dunham of Lansing, MI and Bethany (Neil) Dreffs of Howell, MI; great grandchildren; Cooper, Avery, and Bennett Dreffs; sisters; Lois Gatton, Barbara Huebner, and Linda (Joe) Keene; brothers; Allan (Bobbie) Bacon and Richard (Carolyn) Bacon; sisters-in-law, Connie and Pamela Bacon; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Emerson, Jean was preceded in death by her sons; John and Harold Dunham; brothers, John, Robert, Leland, and Donald Bacon; and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Elsie United Methodist Church, 160 W. Main St., Elsie, MI 48831 with Dr. Donald Ferris-McCann officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, MI 48866. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #502, 220 S. Ovid St., Elsie, MI 48831.

Jody Lynne Barnes
Jody Lynne Barnes, age 44, of St. Johns, MI died Wednesday September 4, 2013 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, MI on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Russ McCoy will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M.. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Duplain Township Cemetery St. Johns, MI.
Jody was born in St. Johns, MI on January 13, 1969, the daughter of Larry E. and Joyce A. (Mrazek) Barnes. She graduated from St. Johns High School – Class of 1987. Jody worked in insurance until her health didn’t allow her to continue. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially Parker, Mya and Dru, her friends and anything MSU. Jody liked to be a volunteer, to read, listen to music and order Chinese food. She was a former member of the Lioness Club, the Jaycees and the Burns Grange. She is survived by her mother Joyce Barnes of Owosso, MI; father Larry Barnes of Republic, MI; sister Amy Robertson of St. Johns, MI; nephews Louis Barnes of Lansing, MI, Parker Robertson of St. Johns, MI, Dru Robertson of St. Johns, MI; niece Mya Robertson of St. Johns, MI; Godparents Dean and Carrie Hartenburg of St. Johns, MI; aunts and uncles Shirley and Gary VanVleet of Higgins Lake, MI, Jim and Julie Mrazek of St. Johns, MI, Donna O’Brien of Lansing, MI, Ginny and Dan Reynolds of Russell, Kansas, Denise Wilson of St. Johns, MI, other relatives and many, many friends.
Jody was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Edna Mrazek and Earl and Rhea Barnes, her stepfather, Larry Keesler, cousin, Devon Mrazek, uncles Roy Wilson and Harry Fisher and her beloved pets Billy and Curwood.

Patricia G. Braun
Patricia G. (Burns) Braun died Friday, September 6, 2013 at the age of 78. She was born April 4, 1935 in Lansing, MI the daughter of Michael and Pauline (Lynch) Burns. Pat was a graduate of Resurrection High School, Class of 1953 and is a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. On August 17, 1957 she married Paul Braun and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Catherine Miller.
Surviving are her children, Michael (Deb) Braun of Perrinton, Donna (Scott) Spicer of DeWitt, Daniel (Linda) Braun of Troy, Mark (Cindy) Braun of Pewamo and Nancy (Vern) Feldpausch of Fowler; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a brother, Dan Burns of FL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, September 9, 2013 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler with Rev. Fr. William Koenigsknecht as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday, September 8 at Most Holy Trinity Church Activity Center 11159 Kent St. Fowler. A rosary will be prayed at 3:00PM Sunday and a vigil service will be held at 8:00PM Sunday at the activity center. Memorials may be made to Down Syndrome Association of Western Michigan 233 E. Fulton St. Ste. 108, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
