Sundaes, a scoop or two of ice cream with choices of toppings. That’s what comes to mind, but in this case Sundae’s is the name of a new place that opened in June, 2013 at 1501 Glastonbury Dr just off of Townsend Rd .
It’s not just ice cream anymore:Denise Roof, owner of Sundae’s, has added a variety of food to the menu.
This is a unique place with a décor of the fun ’50s theme on the inside. There is a arcade room for the young or old, pool table, and my favorite, the juke box where for a quarter you can play some of the “oldies”. Pictures on the wall of some of the famous of that era. The look is completed with chrome tables and chairs just like I grew up with.
There is also a medium sized separate room for parties during open hours or you can have a party using the facilities on Sundays during the off day.
Now, let’s get to the menu. This is not just an ice cream parlor but also a café, and Denise Roof offers a variety of food that she has added to the menu. She now offers real beef barbecue sandwiches, homemade chicken noodle soup, potato soup and chili. There are also the Koegel hot dogs, foot longs, polish dogs and the great chili dogs as well as nachos.
You can build your own sandwich or wrap from a nice selection of wrap that come as spinach, sun dried tomato or whole wheat and 3 different cheeses and meat of turkey, ham, bacon and tuna, and my favorite, chicken salad which is home made. Vegetables are also a numerous selection.
A large selection of ice cream cakes of any size and occasion are beautifully decorated and oh, so yummy. Let’s not forget the ice cream pies and pizza that are offered. Soft drinks and coffee are also available.
For ice cream – flurries, smoothies, slush, and a make your own sundae bar if you prefer. Waffle cones and bowls, regular cones, parfaits, malts and shakes round it all out.
This is, indeed, a place to check out, relax and go back in time. The hours are 11 am – 8 pm, and they are closed on Sunday.
