Zinga
Looking for a dog with some spunk? Look no further! This little dynamo has energy to spare, smarts to equal her energy and abundant comical personality.
Little Zinga was found as a stray, emaciated and full of fleas. Sadly no one came forward to claim this little cutie, so ZinZin is in foster with Animal Placement Bureau.
After being completely vetted, and rehabilitated, she is ready to find her perfect forever home.
It is thought that Zin is a 7- 8 month old Chihuahua or Chihuahua mix. She weighs around 8 lbs., is spayed, heartworm negative, has had all her shots, and is microchipped. She does have luxating patella in her left rear leg which is a common affliction in the Chihuahua breed. Her vet did not feel that it will require surgery, but Zin will sometimes lope on three legs. Her walking and running gaits seem normal. She is still a puppy so the kneecap may become more stable as she gets good nutrition, gains muscle, and gets exercise.
Even though Zinga is most likely a Chihuahua breed, her temperament in foster more closely resembles that of a Terrier. The perfect home for Zin would be one that is active, has terrier experience, and has a secure yard with a minimum of a 4 foot fence as she can jump quite high. Invisible fencing will not be suitable due to Zin’s high chase drive. Also only a home with no pocket pets or cats will be considered as it is expected that Zin would harass both wanting to chase or play.
Zin gets along well with other dogs of equal energy and size to hers. Mild mannered or more sedate dogs would most likely find her need to play annoying. She is very much a high energy puppy and is not a “lap dog”.
Zin is crate trained and house trained and knows a few tricks, most of which she learned within a day’s time! She is extremely smart and very much a “problem solver”. Any new owner will need to be able to think one step ahead of her!! Zin also LOVES to run and has shown quite the ability to play Frisbee. She gets so excited over these “chase” type games that she quivers!! She is a very intense and focused little girl when it comes to playing fetch or Frisbee, and could maybe even be taught agility. However, the limiting factor on any of these activities will be how stable her kneecap becomes in time.
Zinga will not be recommended for a home with small children below age 10 because of her energy level and rough play. She still has a tendency to be “mouthy” during play although a simple “NO” gets her to stop quickly and she is very aware, (and tries so hard), to be gentle. We are working on this in foster and would expect her to outgrow some of this behavior as she gets older.
Zin is one of those dogs with a huge personality in a small package. She brings lots of laughs to her foster parents and in her perfect furever home, she will bring youthful, playful energy, eagerness to please, incredible smarts, and comedy.
