Alfred J. Koenigsknecht
Alfred J. Koenigsknecht, age 89, died February 23, 2014. He was born in Clinton Co., on November 30, 1924, the son of Joseph Sr. and Ida (Feldpausch) Koenigsknecht. Al was in the Army during WWII, serving in the Pacific and was wounded in action and presented the Purple Heart. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the V.F.W. Post #3733 and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from GM after 35 years of service. Al married Anna Rose Simon on April 15, 1944 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Anna preceded Al in death on November 7, 2002.
Surviving are children, Carol Eldridge of St. Johns, Diane (Brad) Hulliberger of Dimondale, Jim (Marsha) Koenigsknecht of Fowler, Tom (Jacque) Koenigsknecht of Perrinton, Mike (Diane) Koenigsknecht of Fowler, Dale (Therese) Koenigsknecht of Fowler, daughters in law, Eva (Fleming) Koenigsknecht of Lansing and Jean (Fred Antes) Koenigsknecht of Fowler, 20 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren, brothers in law, Don (Shirley) Simon of Mt. Clemens and Frank (Barbara) Simon of Lansing and special friend, Lorretta Kappler of Dimondale.
Preceding Al in death are his parents, Joseph Sr. and Ida (Feldpausch) Koenigsknecht, wife, Anna Rose (Simon) Koenigsknecht, brothers, Joseph and Anthony, sisters, Frances, Anna (Schmitt), Regina (Schmitt), Veronica (Pohl) and Irene (Harr), sons, Larry and Ken, grandson, Kenneth Jr., and son in law Doug Eldridge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, burial following at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. The concelebrants will be Fr. Dennis Howard and Fr. William Koenigsknecht. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 8 p.m., and Thurs. from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with rosaries prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler. Contributions may be made in Alfred’s name to the Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund, VFW Post #3733 or No More Sidelines.

Alice Smith Fry
Alice (Schaefer) Smith Fry of Sun City Center, FL and formerly of St. Johns, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the age of 84. She was born in Ingham County, MI on November 9, 1929 to Harold and Laurine (Platte) Schaefer. Alice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Ladies Altar Society. She married Gerald Smith in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 2004. In 2008, Alice married William Fry and he survives her.
Also surviving are her children, Teresa (Larry) Freed of Ovid, MI, Dennis (Susan) Smith of Mason, MI, Denice (Brad) Astalos of DeWitt, MI, Susan (James) Shepard of Cameron, NC, Donald (Debra) Smith of Ft. Wayne, IN, David (Angela) Smith of Casnovia, MI; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Paul Schaefer, Robert (Marilyn) Schaefer, Larry (Joan) Schaefer, Clare (Elaine) Schaefer; sisters-in-law, Joan Epkey, Lin Schaefer; brother-in-law, Duane Andersen; and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Smith; sister, Joyce Andersen; and brothers, Richard and James Schaefer.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns with burial following at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Fr. Michael Williams presiding. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Monday, February 24, 2014 with a Vigil Service being prayed at 7 PM at Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI 48879.

Rev. Fr. Leon H. Pohl
Rev. Fr. Leon H. Pohl, of Lansing and formerly of Fowler, MI died Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the age of 84. Born in Fowler on August 6, 1929 to Louis J. and Catherine (Thelen) Pohl, Rev. Fr. Leon was ordained into the Priesthood on June 2, 1956. He served 11 different parish assignments in both the Diocese of Lansing and the Diocese of Kalamazoo and in 2003 earned his Senior Priest status. Rev. Fr. Leon served his last pastorate at St. Charles Catholic Church in Sturgis, MI where he was very happy to offer the Mass in Spanish at Holy Angels Parish.
Surviving are his sisters; Sister Mary Bernadine Pohl and Sister Mary Ann Pohl, both of Racine, WI; brother, Joseph (Marie) Pohl of Holt; sister-in-law, Joan Pohl of Fowler; and many nieces and nephews. Fr. Leon was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerald (Helen) Pohl and Norbert (Marian) Pohl; sisters, Sister Bernice Pohl, Sister Mary Dorothy Pohl, and Rosaline (Delbert) Smith.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday, February 25, 2014 with a rosary being prayed at 3 PM and a Vigil Service being prayed at 8 PM at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, 11112 W. Ionia, Fowler, MI 48835.

Vernon L. Sharick
Vernon L. Sharick died Friday, February 21, 2014 at the age of 99. He was born July 27, 1914 in Metamora, IL the son of Frank and Helen (Coder) Sharick. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in St. Johns, a Navy Veteran of WWII and member of D. A. V. Vern was an active member of Lions International for over 65 years. He was the last Charter Member of the St. Johns Lions Club holding several officer positions at the local and state level and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest award from Lions International.
Vern was a retired electrician from General Motors (Oldsmobile) and was a part time school bus driver for St. Johns Public Schools. He married Dawn Moore in November of 1940, and she preceded him in death in January 1980. In December 1982 he married Helen Johnson and she preceded him in death in January 2004. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Esther Bachman and Dorothy Slagell and one brother Milton.
Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Wisdom of Tucson, AZ and Nancy (Ralph) Ramsdill of Portage, MI; three grandchildren, Sharicka (Matt) Willett of AZ, Dawn and Donald Ramsdill of Portage, MI; two great grandchildren; a brother, Clayton of Mesa, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm Thursday, February 27, 2014 at First United Methodist Church 200 E. State St. Johns with Pastor Ellen Zienert officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 26 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Lions Club or First United Methodist Church.

Marjorie A. Martin
Marjorie A. Martin died Friday, February 21, 2014 at the age of 91. She was born August 29, 1922 the daughter of Howard and Corabell (Bancroft) Weir. Marjorie enjoyed bowling, sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking for family and friends. She also enjoyed time spent at the Ovid Senior Center. Marjorie worked for over 30 years as a nurse’s aide in several nursing homes in Mid-Michigan retiring from Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor. On August 31, 1940 she married Joseph Martin and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy McCue of Ovid, Rosemarie (Ed) Larkin of Albuquerque, NM, Marlene (Leon) Stewart of Minneola, FL; one son, Tim (Carrie) Martin of Dallas, TX; 15 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren and one brother, Larrie (Sharon) Weir of Iowa, LA. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Wilma Fivecoat and Maxine Mitchell; one brother, Howard Weir Jr.; daughter, Joanne Martin; two sons, James Martin and Tom Martin who was a twin to Tim.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor 1101 S. Scott Rd. St. Johns, MI 48879 or Ovid Senior Center.
