Sunday June 8
A rock is a rock is a rock is a rock, unless it’s in the hands of Carol Maddox and then it may be anything from a pot of flowers to a fish pond or a stepping stone across a rippling creek.
Ms. Maddox is an artist whose primary canvas may be what some ignore as ugly or troublesome annoyances unless creating a rock garden, and that environment Ms. Maddox might view as a treasure trove. For her canvases are rocks and everyone she sees becomes a precious stone, inspiring a creation which may develop into an animal, a flower or even a fish. Perhaps a clutch of unblinking baby owls.
Only the artist knows for certain if this is a parliament or a clutch as these almost real-appearing owls display a range of ages.
Her work will be central to an open house at the Clinton County Arts Council Gallery Sunday June 8 between 1pm and 3pm during what has become a regular monthly event. This month’s gathering is open to the public and is sponsored by First Bank. As is customary for these First Sunday events, refreshments will be served.
The Gallery is located at 215 N. Clinton Ave. in St. Johns and information regarding this event – and other Council related activities – can be obtained by calling 989 224-2429 or visiting clintoncountyarts.org.
