Local man heading to Africa

Peace Corps

He has only wanted to go to Africa since he was four years old, and now Justin (JD) Link is getting his chance. JD graduated from St. Johns High School and Michigan Tech in Houghton before applying for a two-year stint with the Peace Corps.
When his assignment came up, he learned that he would be going to Togo on the central west coast of Africa.
Last Saturday, amid and in direct competition with the many high school open houses, friends and family gathered at the City Park to wish JD well. JD is the son of Dave and Eunice Link of St. Johns. He is also the grandson of Jack and Eunice Link of Grand Blanc and Jack and Jean Martin of Alpena.
The St. Johns Community Band gave him an exceptional send off with a special concert in his honor.

The Entertainer

Annie
On Tuesday morning, June 10 JD boarded an airplane in Lansing for the long trip to Togo via Philadelphia and Belgium.
Later that day his mother wrote:

Took JD to the airport early this morning. He said that he felt like a dog taking its final ride to the vet. A little excited and yet unsure about what was really going on.
Run and play with the big dogs, Bud. Run and play.
