Bookaholics
There is still a chance to read “Rocket Boys” before our book clubs meet on Thursday, August 21. In his uniquely American memoir, Homer Hickam shares a powerful story of coming of age at the dawn of the 1960s, of a mother’s love and a father’s fears, of a group of young men who dreamed of launching rockets into outer space . . . and who made those dreams come true. The club will meet 12:00 pm at the library or at Bruno’s Bar at 7:30 pm. As the final film in our Adult Summer Movie Series, the library will also be screening October Sky, the movie based on Hickam’s memoir, on Tuesday, August 26 at 6:30 pm. All patrons are welcome to join us for the book club discussions or the film.
Family Movie Fridays
The final session of our summer Family Movie Friday series will take place on August 22 when we screen the classic E.T. The movie is rated PG, and will start at 3:00. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and are welcome to bring their own pillows or camp chairs. Refreshments will be available to purchase for a small fee.
Summer Reading Guessing Contest Winners and Thank Yous
Our winners for the summer guessing contests were: Matthew Zampaloni, Ava Howard, Jillian Sawyers, Liam O’Hare, Ian Beltran, John Schafer, Callie Munger and Alyvia Spousta. They estimated pennies, paperclips, spoonful’s of sugar, bugs, inches of string, candies and glasses of water in test tubes. Congratulations to them all! A big thank you goes to our Library Friends Group who sponsored materials and entertainment for our Summer Reading Program. We appreciate their support. Thank you to Sharon Kidd for sharing her talent and felt board and Diane Harte for sharing materials to help our Toddler Story-time extra special. A super big thank-you goes to a staff member who goes above and beyond by supplying home-made cookies for our summer finale. We appreciate the time and creativity that she puts into them.
