Undersheriff Larry Jerue
The Michigan House of Representatives today conducted its annual 9/11 memorial service, honoring the four first responders from Michigan who lost their lives in the line of duty in the past year.

State Rep. Tom Leonard was joined in the House chambers by Clinton County Undersheriff Larry Jerue to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
“We hold this memorial service each year as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices so many brave women and men make in our local communities and on behalf of our nation,” said Leonard, R-DeWitt Township. “It was an honor to have Undersheriff Jerue with me here today, and I thank all our local first responders for their commitment to keep us safe.”
Lawmakers also paid tribute to Department of Corrections Deputy Corrections Keeper George Haight, who gave his life in the line of duty at Jackson Prison in 1893. Haight’s name was recently inscribed in the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall.
The event featured the ringing of a fire bell following the reading of the names of each first responder who died in the line of duty since September 11, 2013. Special music was provided by a fire department bagpiper and Taps was played by two members of the Grand Ledge Marching Band.
