Clinton-Ionia-Shiawassee Trail work nearing the home stretch
The limestone surface has being placed for the entire project. The sections from Ionia to Fowler and then Ovid to the end have been rolled, compacted and graded. Some shoulder work remains in these sections, but for the most part it is set.
There is still some grading and restoration work that needs to be completed between Fowler and Ovid, but the material is in place! All ADA ramps have also been installed at intersections in the limestone. Please note that regulatory signs (for the path and the roads) will still need to be installed at the intersections. We anticipate installation of the signs for the entire project to begin soon.
Restoration is complete and split rail fence has been installed in Muir, Pewamo and Fowler. As mentioned earlier, the regulatory signs should be coming shortly.
Work continues in Ovid, with clearing nearly complete. Concrete ADA ramps and curb and gutter replacement is under way. Placing the gravel base for the pavement should start this week, and we may see pavement on the trail in Ovid as early as next week.
Crews plan to be paving in St. Johns within a couple of weeks. Work will begin around the veterans memorial in Clinton Street. We and the contractor are coordinating work with the City of St. Johns and the Veterans Group to make sure that the memorial is treated properly and carefully.

Most of the trestle work is complete. The concrete deck on Trestle 10 in Ovid was poured yesterday. The crews will let the concrete set for a couple of days and then finish installing the railings.
Right now, we anticipate completion of all major work items by October 31.
Starting in a couple of weeks and going into early November, they will begin final inspection of the entire 42 mile trail, and will be looking forward to approval and project completion shortly thereafter.
Organizers would like to remind everyone again that the trail is still under construction. Please pass it along that even the sections that are “complete” may have equipment or men working on the trail and we don’t want to see any accidents this close to completion.
