Leonard elected to key leadership position

leonardState Rep. Tom Leonard was recently elected as the Speaker Pro Tempore for the Michigan House of Representative’s 2015-2016 legislative session. Leonard will be second in line in leadership of the 63-seat Republican House majority.
The Speaker Pro Tempore helps preside over House proceedings, moderate debate, make rulings on procedure and announce the results of votes.
“It is a great honor to have been chosen for this role by my colleagues in the House,” said Leonard, R-DeWitt Township. “House Republicans have worked tirelessly to create a brighter future for all of Michigan’s families. I am excited to be in a leadership position where I can help continue that work. Michigan’s economy is rebounding and jobs are being added throughout the state. House Republicans are committed to making sure Michigan continues its path to recovery.
“For the past four years, Speaker Bolger and his leadership team have done a great job turning our state around. I look forward to working alongside Speaker-Elect Kevin Cotter and the rest of the House leadership team as we tackle some of Michigan’s biggest issues and drive our state forward.”
First elected in 2012, Leonard currently serves as vice chair of the House Insurance Committee. He also serves on the House Commerce, Judiciary, Oversight and Michigan Competitiveness committees.
