Tween Holiday Program and much more
Inviting all ‘Tweens (ages 9-12) to a special holiday program: “Once Upon a Winter’s Evening…” being held on Monday, December 8th from 7-8pm. Please join us for Christmas stories, treats (Yum!), making a snowman ornament, and playing a game! This is probably too much fun for one night, but we’ll do our best! Registration is required and now available at the library or at briggspubliclibrary.org.
Christmas Holiday Programs
“Tick Tock” time is passing quickly and before you know it …the holidays are here. Don’t forget to mark your December calendar! Our holiday programs are for all ages and are on (Thursday, December 4th, 6-8pm), (Friday, December 5th, 6-8pm) and (Saturday, December 6th, 10-11:30 am). There will be holiday stories, reindeer games, chilly crafts, and yummy refreshments. Of course a personal visit with Santa is a highlight for the children. Make sure to bring your camera! No registration is required for these free programs. Join us at the library to celebrate the season in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Family Game Night

Families looking for a break from the winter blahs are invited to Briggs Library’s first Family Game Night. We will have a selection of new and classic board games, party games, card games, and more available during this evening of fun for the entire family. This special event will take place on Thursday, December 11 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm, with registration now available. There will be light snacks and refreshments provided. All ages are welcome, though most games are designed for ages 3 and up.
Family Movie Night
Briggs Library will be screening the hit movie “Guardians of the Galaxy” on Monday, December 22 at 6:00 pm. The movie follows a group of space criminals who must work together to stop a fanatical villain from destroying the galaxy. The film runs 120 minutes, and is rated PG-13. All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Patrons are welcome to bring pillows or camp chairs for more comfortable seating, and refreshments will be available to purchase for a small fee.
Staff Picks
If you are looking for a good book to read here is a list of titles that Library staff enjoyed or found informative in the last month. Fiction: Night Garden by Lisa Van Allen, Paris Match by Stuart Woods, Perfect Match by Iris Johansen, The Forgotten Girl by David Bell, The Gingerbread Girl by Stephen King and Gray Mountain by John Grisham. Non-fiction: Weightless: My Life as a Fat Man and How I Survived by Gregg McBride. Miss Marie’s Juvenile Picks: They All Fall Down by Roxanne St. Clair (Young Adult, Emma and the Blue Genie by Cornelia Funke, Dangerous Deception by Peg Kehret and The Doll People Set Sail by Ann M. Martin and Laura Godwin.
Mitten Tree
The library’s annual mitten drive will run until Monday, December 8th. Mittens & gloves must be new (home-made or store bought.) The collection is for all ages, adult or child. Items collected will be donated to charitable organizations. The greatest need is for mittens and gloves.
Library Closures
The Library will be closed on Friday Dec. 19th from 11:15am – 1:15pm for the City of St. Johns Awards Luncheon. The Library will be closed on December 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th for the Christmas Holiday and on December 31st and January 1st for the New Year’s Holiday. The drop box on the Library porch will be available for returns throughout these closures.
