Marian R. Maron
maron_marian2Marian R. Maron, age 81, passed away on January 14, 2015. She was born in St. Johns on August 13, 1933, the daughter of Roscoe and Ruth (Bandt) Rathbun. Marian was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 30 years, enjoyed doing plastic canvas, volunteered with Ovid Ambulance Service, was an active member of the Ovid Acme Society and lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Ovid where she started the Haiti Project. Marian married George Maron on June 6, 1963 and he survives her.
Also surviving are their children, Deb (Charles) Smith of Harrison, MI, Sheila (Tim) Burgin of Dearborn, MI, Erica Janes of Ovid, H. George Maron II of Warren, MI, B. Gregg Maron of Macomb, MI, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sister, Rebecca Thayer, brother and sister in law, Art (Helen) Maron and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, daughter, Kathy Maron, brother Rolland (Mary Ellen) Rathbun, sister, Rosie (LaVern) Ames and granddaughter, Stormie Lynn Tobias.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, with Pastor Tim Dickenson and Rev. Mike Prince officiating, burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in memory of Marian to the donor’s charity of choice or Sparrow Hospice.
The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.


John C. Garcia
garcia_johnJohn C. Garcia died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the age of 92. He was born October 21, 1922 in Bustamante, Mexico the son of Luciano and San Juana (Castillo) Garcia. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, is an Army veteran of WWII and a member of V.F.W. Post 4113 in St. Johns. He was an inspector for General Motors retiring in 1988. On August 28, 1948 he married Janie Lopez and she preceded him in death in 2003.
Surviving is a daughter, Jane Carlson; a son, John (Pam) Garcia all of St. Johns; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four sisters, Oralia Garcia of Alma, Christina (Herminio) Roldan of Texas, Eva Zuniga and Francis Zuniga both of Flint; three brothers, Merced (Irene) Garcia of FL, Robert (Francene) Garcia of Ovid and Rudy (Lois) Garcia of Durand. John was predeceased by a son-in-law, Carl Carlson, five brothers and one sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery with military honors provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 on Thursday, January 15 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.


Jascha Jason Adamski
Jascha Jason Adamski, 40, of St. Johns, died Thursday January 8, 2015.
Memorial services 3 p.m. Sunday January 18, 2015 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, St. Johns.


Glenna J. Patterson
patterson_glenna2Glenna J. Patterson, 89 of Ovid died at Ovid Convalescent Manor on Monday, January 12, 2015. She was born on November 29, 1925 in Roseville, Ohio the daughter of Carl and Orpha (Buckner) Warden. On November 20, 1945 she married Sherman “Pat” Patterson and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1989. Glenna was a homemaker and sold Avon for many years.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas (Linda) Patterson of Midland, MI, David (Marti) Patterson of North Carolina, daughters, Kathy Pung of Madison Heights and Karla Alley of Ovid, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Glenna was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Eleanor Warden and Dorothy Plowman as well as son-in-law Mike Pung.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Paul Damkoehler . Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.


Donna N. Magsig
magsig_donnaDonna N. Magsig, 91 of St. Johns, MI died on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Grace Haven Assisted Living . Donna was born on August 13, 1923 in Lansing, MI the daughter of Ray and Lavina (Price) Thayer. She graduated from DeWitt High School and on July 25, 1942 she married Archie Magsig. Donna was a lifelong member of DeWitt Community Church, enjoyed cooking and antiques and her and her husband built and operated Highland Hills Golf Course for many years.
Survivors are her children, Linda (Dennis) Kentfield of St. Johns, Nancy Magsig of Australia and Daniel (Heidi) Magsig of Grand Ledge grandchildren Scott Kentfield and Anusha Yazdampona; great grandson Dennis Warren Winslow and Samuel B. Bromund and sisters Doris Bosley of Lansing and June Reynolds of DeWitt. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Raymond Thayer and granddaughter Melissa Kentfield.
Memorials may be made to Treasures to Grow On, 13060 S. US 27, DeWitt, MI 48820. Graveside services will be held in the spring. Arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home.


Margaret E. Schepler
schepler_margaretMargaret E. Schepler, age 95, of Rogers City, MI and Boynton Beach, FL, passed away Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at Eaton Community Palliative Care in Charlotte, MI. A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns chapel on Saturday, January 17th at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Keith Whipple will officiate.
Margaret was born in Carp Lake, Michigan on September 24, 1919, the daughter of Edgar and Jennie (Woolhouse) Dow. She graduated as the Salutatorian of Mackinac City High School class of 1937. Margaret married Captain Robert Schepler on January 27, 1940 in Mackinac City, MI. He preceded her in death April 3, 1983. She resided most of her life in Rogers City, MI. Margaret loved golfing, bowling, cooking, and was a great seamstress. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and her greatest pride was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda and Richard Spencer of Canadian Lakes, MI; daughter Roberta and Craig McElmurry of Alpena, MI; son Mark and Audrey Schepler of St. Johns, MI; daughter Candace and Douglas Oliver of Oscoda, MI; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sisters Lorena and Nancy; and brothers Earl and Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 6 sisters Lydia, Thelma, Helen, Martha, Patricia, and Betty; and 4 brothers Jack, Norman, Everett, and Bruce.

Gordon W. Lemke
lemke_gordonGordon W. Lemke, age 66 of Ithaca passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Memorial Healthcare following a bout with cancer.
A memorial service was held at 1 pm, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Nelson House Funeral Home in Owosso. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12pm until the time of service.
Gordon was born August 22, 1948 in Crookston, Minnesota, the son of William and Jean (Yerian) Lemke. He graduated from Central High School in Crookston, Minnesota, class of 1966. As an adolescent, he was an expert water skier and an Eagle Scout. He moved with his family to Elsie, MI, immediately after his graduation. He enlisted in in the United States Navy in January 1967 and was based in San Francisco. He served four years with multiple tours on the aircraft carrier, Coral Sea, during the Vietnam conflict. He thoroughly enjoyed the culture of many ports in Asia, especially in Japan.
After his four years in the Navy, Gordon came home to the St. Johns area, married, and his son John was born. He later moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he enjoyed hiking and camping in the mountains. In the late 1980’s he returned to live in the St. Johns/Ithaca area. Gordon retired from Federal Mogul where he worked in maintenance and was a UAW Union Representative.
He was an avid outdoorsman and liked to camp and fish, especially in northern Michigan. Gordon enjoyed wood working and carpentry. At the time of his death he and his son, John, were remodeling a house he had hoped to move into in the new year.
He is survived by his son John Lemke of Dewitt; sisters Nancy (Tom) Hughson and Cheryl Lemke (David Shough); sister-in-law Beverly Lemke; several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Randy Lemke.

Dorothy A. Harris
Dorothy Allene (Jason) Harris, 96, of East Lansing, formerly of St. Johns, retired registered nurse, died Sunday January 4, 2015.
Private services will be held.
