To provide more services
The Clinton County Senior Center, located at 201 E Walker Street in St. Johns recently received two grants to help them provide more services to senior citizens in Clinton County.
Jackson National Community Fund granted $3,000 to the center to provide monthly activities. Activities throughout the year will include everything from a Hawaiian Luau or Sock Hop to a Lugnuts Game. These special activities will be held on different Wednesday’s (and an occasional Thursday) each month and will be posted on their monthly calendar that is available at the center.
The Tri County Electric People’s Fund granted the Center $1,500 to help make purchases for their Bingo Program. Bingo is played every Tuesday and Friday at 12:30. The cost is only $1 and each time members walk away with 4-5 prizes like canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, peanut butter, crackers, frozen foods, candy, etc. They also have personal care products, nic nacs, books, puzzles and stuffed animals as prizes.
Of course the Senior Center is not just about special activities. Each day seniors can come down just to socialize, play cards and games, put together puzzles, play the piano, etc. They have organized Euchre Tournaments every Monday and Trivia Contests every other Monday. The center has a licensed kitchen so they even can provide lunchtime meals. On Monday’s their lunch is open to the general public and is available for only $5. Community members like John Thelen (from St. Vincent DePaul) and Tyler Barlage (pastor at Community Christian Church) are just two of their volunteer cooks. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday the meals are prepared daily in Lansing and brought up each day. They are available to senior citizens for a suggested $3 donation.
Any senior citizen (aged 55 and over) is welcome to come and check out the center. They are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and the occasional Thursday.
If you have any questions about the Senior Center give them a call at 989-224-4257 or stop in during open hours.
