Janet Kloeckner Halfmann’s Animal Teachers
Animal Teachers by children’s author Janet Kloeckner Halfmann, formerly of rural Fowler/St. Johns, won Honorable Mention in the Tofte/Wright Children’s Literature Award from the Council for Wisconsin Writers.
Here’s what the judge had to say about the book: “This charming compendium of parent/child animal pairs deftly and humorously extols the virtues of mentoring (kangaroo boxing sessions, anyone?). Gentle questions engage the young reader with the narrative, while an appendix of little-known fun facts adds to the picture book’s educational appeal. The 3rd and 4th grade students I showed this book to were delighted.”
Animal Teachers, a picture book for ages 3-7, is illustrated by Katy Hudson and published by Blue Apple Books. Earlier it won a 2014 Gold Best Book Award from Oppenheim Toy Portfolio.
Halfmann is the author of forty fiction and nonfiction books for children. Her book Star of the Sea: A Day in the Life of a Starfish, won first place in this same contest in 2011. Other recent titles include Eggs 1, 2, 3: Who Will the Babies Be? A Rainbow of Birds, Home in the Cave, Good Night, Little Sea Otter, and Seven Miles to Freedom: The Robert Smalls Story.
Signed copies of Halfmann’s books are available at Clinton County Art Gallery in downtown St. Johns and Becker Furniture in Fowler
