Arrests made in rural St. Johns murder

On Tuesday, May 19 the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office obtained four multiple-count arrest warrants for four individuals involved in the September 18, 2013 Homicide of Jauwan Gaylord Butler at a residence located on Taft road in Bingham Township.

Two of the four individuals charged were arraigned on May 20,2015 at 2 p.m, in Clinton Counties 65″ District Court on nine counts each including Homicide-Felony Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Home Invasion-1st Degree. Home Invasion-1st Degree and four counts of Weapons-Felony Firearm. The other two individuals involved were arraigned on May 21, 2015 at 2 p.m, in Clinton County 65th District Court on the same nine counts each.

Three of the four suspect are presently incarcerated on other charges in other jurisdictions not related to this homicide.

The investigation that spanned some 20 months involved dozens of interviews and numerous polygraph examinations along with DNA evidence collected at the scene leading investigators to identifying the four individuals involved.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office initially received help with the investigation from detectives from both Bath and Dewitt Township Police Departments, and also from the Lansing Police Departments Crime Scene Investigation Team. As the investigation continued over the months Detectives worked closely with Agents from the local Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives office and with the Lansing Police Departments Special Operations Division developing and running down leads cu1roinating in these arrests.
