In Honor of Fathers’ Day
Supporting CASA supports children like Suzy
[name changed to protect identity]
Suzy is 7 years old; she has been removed from her parents’ care three times. Suzy and her two siblings were appointed a CASA Advocate Spring 2014.
Below are a few ways Suzy’s Advocate has provided a voice to three children throughout their experiences in ‘the system’.
– Get needed, extensive dental care
– Evaluations for and start counseling due to intense feelings of anger and self-harming
– Through observing parenting time, supported suspending parents’ visits early Winter 2015 due to the children’s extreme fears and behaviors
– Connect Suzy and her siblings with clothing resources
– A consistent friend to color with, play with play dough, and LISTEN
Due to Suzy’s parents’ lack of participation and the information her CASA Advocate provided to the court, Suzy’s parents had their parental rights terminated.
While this is a sad decision, a bond not meant to be broken, the court’s decision helps Suzy and her siblings on the path to finding a safe, permanent home.
This Fathers’ Day won’t you consider a gift which will help us reach all children who are involved in court proceedings due to abuse or neglect. Help us to provide a voice.
