Fallen firefighter’s family unveils memorial sign

Tim Sanborn honored by stretch of U.S. 127

State Rep. Tom Leonard joined the wife, children and grandchildren of a fallen Clinton County Fire and Rescue firefighter to unveil a sign naming a portion of U.S. 127 in his honor.

Rep. Leonard, R-DeWitt, was the author of a bill memorializing the stretch of roadway beginning at Colony Road and stretching north to M-57 as the Tim Sanborn Memorial Highway. Sanborn, a third-generation firefighter, suffered a fatal heart attack while battling a house fire on June 22, 2007.

“Unfortunately, eight years ago today Mr. Sanborn paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting a fire,” Rep. Leonard said. “Having this portion of U.S. 127 dedicated in his memory is our way of commemorating him and bringing honor to him and his family, as well as to the entire Clinton County Fire and Rescue.”

The unveiling took place on the eighth anniversary of Sanborn’s death. His wife, Marie, said Sanborn never got to meet any of the grandchildren who took part in the ceremony.

“It’s a wonderful honor for Tim and my family and for future generations,” Marie Sanborn said. “It’s also an honor for all first responders across the nation who go out and give their lives and make sacrifices every day that sometimes we take for granted.”
