Richard F. Rummell

rummell_richardRichard F. Rummell, age 87, of Ovid, MI passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Ovid Healthcare Center.

A Memorial Celebration of His Life will be held at Owosso Tractor Parts 6990 W. M-21, Owosso, MI 48867 on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 2-6 P.M. with a short service at 2:00 P.M. but you are welcome to come at any time.

Richard was born in St. Johns, Michigan on June 22, 1928, the son of Lloyd and Adah (Mosher) Rummell. He was a graduate of Ovid High School with the class of 1946. Richard resided all of his life in Ovid, MI. Richard and Reba Ackels were married on March 31, 1951 in Ovid, MI.

Richard and Reba owned and operated a Dairy farm on Rummell’s Hill until 1990. He was a member of the Ovid Lions Club. Richard was a past Scout Master with the Ovid Boy Scouts. He was a civil war enthusiast.

He is survived by 4 children; Peggy Corp of Owosso, MI, Cathy Lennon of Owosso, MI, Mike and Mary Rummell of Owosso, MI, Luann and Randy Corner of Newport, NC, 7 grandchildren; Jenny, Jerry and Heather, Tim, Jamie, Shelbie, Lindsey and Matt, Amanda and Randy, 10 great-grandchildren; Brittany, Dylan, Abbie, Kaitlyn, Audra, Taiylor, Torri, Timmy, Mayson, and Carter. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Reba on April 18, 2015, a granddaughter Casie Rummell, 2 son-in-laws; Steve Corp and Jim Lennon and his brother Lee Rummell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Midland, 3600 N. Saginaw Road, Midland, MI 48640. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, Michigan.


Marvin L. Whitford

whitford_marvinMarvin L. Whitford died Monday, August 10, 2015 at the age of 83. He was born March 7, 1932 in North Star Township, Gratiot County, MI the son of John and Marie (Nass) Whitford. Marvin served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War, was a member of American Legion Post #153 and was a life member of VFW Post #4113. He was a member of the National Trappers Association, was a life member of the Michigan Trappers Association and a member of the Pompeii Odd Fellows Lodge # 417. Marvin attended the Gilmore Church of Christ and the Duplain Church of Christ. He retired from Federal Mogul Corp. with 37 years of service.

Surviving are four sons, Raymond (Lynn) of Lansing, Gary (Joan) Farin Douglas (Cathy) all of St. Johns, Jody (Karen) of Ovid; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; three brothers, Merle (Alice) of Grand Rapids, Ronald (Nancy) of Adrian, Ivan (Janice) of St. Johns; two sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Cancz of Chesaning, Brenda (Wayne) Stewart of DeWitt; one sister-in-law, Ruth Whitford of Hollywood, FL. On April 1, 1955 he married Joan Eldred and she preceded him in death November 2, 2014. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Bailey, Lois Zimmerman and Margaret Bishop; three brothers, infant Earl, John and Russell and a grandson, Conner Whitford.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Chuck Emmert officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery with military honors provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard, Charlie Company and Marine Corps League. The family will receive relatives and friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior the funeral on Thursday. There will be an Odd Fellow Service at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Sunshine Foundation, Gilmore Church of Christ or Duplain Church of Christ.


Katherine Marie Shank

shank_katherineKatherine Marie Shank, 81 of St. Johns, formerly of Elsie, MI died on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Katherine was born on August 2, 1934 in Flint, MI the daughter of Carlton and Stella (Simon) Brooks. On January 18, 1958 she was married to Keith R. Shank in Gaylord, MI. She worked as a LPN at Ovid Healthcare Center and later at Hazel Findlay Country Manor. She also was a bus driver for Ovid-Elsie Schools for several years. Katherine enjoyed reading, crafts, the outdoors, her church the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Keith. Daughter Judy Rick) Gruesbek of Cedar City, Utah, sons Michael (Michelle) Shank of Farwell, MI and Brian Shank of Lake, MI; grandchildren, Tricia Hansen, Danny Abercrombie, Liah Abercrombie, Luke Abercrombie, Caylei Shank, Maeghan Shank, Brandon Shank, Matthew Shank and Bradley Shank; 5 great grandchildren; and siblings, Robert and John Brooks, Nancy Long, Mary Jane Benz and Frederick Brooks. Preceding her in death are daughters Patricia Abercrombie and Kay Shank and brother Carlton Brooks.

Graveside services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery , Elmira, Michigan on Friday, August 14, 2015.

Arrangements are entrusted to Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns, Michigan.


Duane R. Hyatt

hyatt_duaneDuane R. Hyatt, age 42, passed away on August 5, 2015. He was born in Lansing on January 28, 1973, the son of Richard and Barbara (Hoppe) Hyatt.

He is survived by his son, Dustin Hyatt and former spouse and friend, Monique Hyatt of Lansing, his parents, Richard and Barbara Hyatt of St. Johns, sister, Eugenia Hyatt, two nephews, Casey and Dakota Huckaba and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death are grandparents, August and June Hoppe, Richard and Edith Hyatt and uncle Doug Hoppe. Duane suffered from congenital heart defects from birth but was a warrior at heart and lived life to the fullest. He loved his family, especially his son Dustin.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Duane’s name to the Ronald McDonald House, 121 S. Holmes St., Lansing, MI 48912.

The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
