Constance Kemp
Constance “Connie” L. (Light) (Smith) Kempf died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the age of 81. She was born September 25, 1933 in Detroit the daughter of Robert and Helen (Maslewski) Cavert. Connie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #153. Connie retired in 1998 as a cashier from Krogers after 25 years of service.
Surviving are two sons, Arnold and James Light both of Texas; four grandchildren, Michael, Kristopher, Summer and Jayme; three sisters, June Hildabrant of Sterling Heights, Pat Guidley of California and Jean Wallace of Utah. She married Lynn K. Smith January 22, 1966 and he preceded her in death in 1979. She married Roger L. Kempf, January 23, 2001 and he preceded her in death in 2005. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Light.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Deacon Marv Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Wilsey Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 am until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor 1101 S. Scott Rd. St. Johns, MI 48879.
Fredrick “Bill” Spellman
Fredrick “Bill” Spellman, 79 of rural St. Johns died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Bill was born on February 26, 1936 in Shelby, Michigan the son of Fredrick E. and Dorothy (Johnson) Spellman. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1954, served in the U.S. Navy and on July 24, 1965 he married Storm Beebe in Eureka, MI. Bill worked for the U.S. Postal System as a clerk, city and rural mail carrier and retired in 1993. He enjoyed watching war movies, garage sales, flea markets and especially loved talking with people.
He is survived by his wife, Storm; Son Troy (Sheila) Spellman of Ashley, MI and daughter Tracie (Steve) Nelson of Alma, MI; Grandchildren, Courtney and Zach Nelson, Keith and Shara Spellman and Zachary Blackburn; Brothers Gary (Izzy) Spellman and Mike (Sue) Kobylarz both of St. Johns and sisters Joann Mulligan and Kay Devereaux. He was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Thursday, September 3, 2015, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Keith Whipple officiating. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
James A. Aldrich
James “Jimmy” A. Aldrich, age 67, passed away on August 31, 2015, after a long illness. He was born in Lansing on March 11, 1948, the son of Fletcher and Gladys (Milbauer) Aldrich. Jim married Diane Mulder on November 10, 1973. He retired from ABF Freight. Jim was one of Michigan’s most active stock car drivers from 1966-1992, winning several championships and MSPA Sportsman of the year. He was inducted into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. Jim was an active member of Mid-Michigan Old Gas Tractor (MMOGTA) Association, County Line Antique Tractor Club and Mid-Michigan Antique Tractor Association (Clio Club).
He is survived by spouse, Diane, children, Jamie Aldrich of Ovid and Todd (Heidi) Rozema of Grand Rapids. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Addilynn Aldrich Vincent, Brandon, Ella and Gavin Rozema, Madeline Irland and special children, Nickolas and Taylor Irland, brother, Donavan Aldrich, sister, Eunice Diehl, sister-in-law, Bonnie Aldrich and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Fletcher Aldrich, brother, Lee Aldrich, brother-in-law, David Diehl and nephew, Brian Huff.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, MI, with Pastor Kirk Brookins officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 14, 2015 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Shirley A. Bailey
Shirley A. Bailey died Monday, August 31, 2015 at the age of 82. She was born September 9, 1932 in St. Johns, MI the daughter of Glen and Neva (Plowman) Padgett. Shirley loved playing golf and in her later years watching golf on television. She enjoyed playing the organ and was most always the life of the party or gathering. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her years at Budd Lake in Harrison, MI and spending her winters in Florida. Shirley was a beautician and operated her shop from her home in St. Johns for over 25 years.
Surviving is a daughter, Sandra Patterson of Houghton Lake; one son, Jeffrey (Brenda) Bailey of St. Johns; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. On May 18, 1952 she married Adam Bailey and he preceded her in death in 2004. She was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Kim Patterson.
Following Shirley’s wishes there will be no visitation or services. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation 1050 Wilshire Dr. Suite 202 Troy, MI 48084 or to family wishes 5232 County Farm Rd St. Johns, MI 48879.

Sharon M. Huntley
Sharon M. Huntley, 77 of St. Johns, Michigan died at her home on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. She was born on September 14, 1937 in Ingham County, MI the daughter of Helah F. and Clarie M. (Pamment) Heinrich. She graduated from St. Johns High School and was a homemaker. On March 25, 1973 she married Gerald Huntley. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2005. Sharon was active in the St. Johns Senior Center, a greeter and member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, and her greatest love was music and dancing.
Survivors are her children, Rick (Chris) Halfman of Evert, MI, Pamela (Paul) Martin of Westphalia, MI, Linda (Terry Gorney) Cook of Holt, MI, Cheryl (Scott) Goodman of East Lansing, MI and Terry Holfman of Knoxville, TN; Step children Kevin Huntley of Potterville, MI, Kim (Ambie) Pearson of Perry, MI and Kelly Huntley of Morrice, MI; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; Brothers, Darryl (JoAnn) Heinrich of Ovid, MI and Dennis (Sherida) Heinrich of Lansing.
Memorial services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 511 E. Sturgis St., St. Johns on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. A greeting time will begin at 10:00 A.M. until service time. Memorial contributions may be given to the family.
