Frederick M. Lewis, attorney with the Kemper, Wells and Lewis law firm in St Johns, was appointed District Court Judge by Governor William Milliken on July 23, 1973. He will fill the vacancy left by the death of Judge Roland Duguay.

The 49 year-old Lewis has been in practice approximately 23 years. He was county prosecutor for 12 years, a part-time position at the time, and practiced law with Kemper, Wells and Lewis. Lewis then accepted a position as corporate lawyer for Clark Equipment Co in Buchanan for 3 years, before returning to private practice in St Johns for the past 3 years.

Lewis and his wife Helen resided at 2883 Loomis Rd, St Johns. They have 4 children, Mrs. Linda Williams, 26; Jeremy, 23; Maureen, 20; and Nancy, 18.

He received his law degree from the University of Michigan and has done special work at William and Mary; and the California Institute of Technology. Lewis’ appointment as District Judge is effective until Jan l, 1975, when an election will take place; He was sworn into office July 25, 1973.
