Winter Warm-Up
The City of St. Johns Recreation Department is offering a series of free “Try IT” recreation programs as part of the Community Partners in Health: Winter Warm-Up.
The first free program is a Fitness “Try It” Night, which is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Oakview Elementary School. Participants can sample a variety of exercise programs offered by the Recreation Department.
Classes include: Bootcamp 6:00 – 6:20 pm,
Zumba Kids 6:30 – 6:50 pm (adults welcome), and
Yoga Basics 7:00 – 7:20 pm
The second program is our Lap Swim “Try It” Early Morning, Day, and Night Events. These will take place on Tuesday, February 17th from 5:00-6:00 am and Wednesday, February 18th, 2015 from 10:00 -11:00 am and 8:15-9:15 pm at the St Johns High School Pool. Please enter the school from the Activities Entrance on the west side of the building.
The last free event our Open Gym “Try It” Night on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 8:00 -10:00 pm at St. Johns Middle School Gyms. Participants can participate in open gym volleyball and basketball for free.
Nine communities from the greater Lansing area are participating in the free 2015 Winter Warm-Up, featuring the Blues Community Challenge, which began January 24th, and runs through March 22nd. The free, eight-week program is presented by Community Partners in Health and encourages local residents of all ages to begin the new year with a commitment to healthy living and being active. The municipalities participating in the Blues Community Challenge are Charlotte, Delhi Township, Delta Township, East Lansing, Grand Ledge, Lansing, Lansing Township, St. Johns and Williamston.
The popular Blues Community Challenge is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM). To participate in the Blues Community Challenge, members log minutes or miles of exercise. BCBSM is awarding grants to all participating teams. The grants will be used to support public health and wellness investments in each community.
Money received by the City of St. Johns from this challenge will be used to help support the Spray Park project.
