Aims to increase recycling
Beginning July 1, Clinton County-based, family-owned Granger will be the new waste and recycling hauler in St. Johns. The City made the announcement Tuesday morning during a press conference at the Depot Pavilion.

“The selection of Granger as the new hauler was a win on many levels,” said Mayor Dana Beaman. “We feel good about choosing a local, family-owned company that is committed to environmental stewardship. We made a responsible financial decision that will allow our community the opportunity to recycle even more.”
Each household will receive a large recycling cart, which has more than five times the capacity of the tubs that are currently used. Residents will be able to recycle items like plastic, cardboard, boxboard, paper, tin and aluminum. Once recycled, these items will take on new life. They will become products such as toothbrushes, carpet, sleeping bags, backpacks, telephone books and car and bicycle parts.
“This is a very special partnership for us,” said Granger Chief Executive Officer Keith Granger. “We welcome the opportunity to provide service to a community so close to our roots in Clinton County, where many of our Granger associates live and spend their free time.”
Granger will deliver the carts, along with a welcome packet, to all households in the city limits during the month of June.
Residents are asked to continue using their existing recycling tubs until service with Granger starts in July.
Clinton County-based, family-owned Granger will collect trash and recycling in St. Johns beginning July 1.
Trash and recycling will be collected on the same day and residents will not see a change to their service day. Households should continue to use the mint green city bags for trash that are available for purchase at the St. Johns City Hall and local retailers. National hauler Waste Management holds the contract with the City until July.
