To compete on January 31st
by Maralyn Fink
On Saturday evening I headed to the High School to capture the dance team at their Winter Formal fund raiser.
On Thursday this week the team, coach and chaperones will leave for the competition at Disney World in Florida. They will compete on January 31st and will return on February 3rd. There is so much excitement among the girls and coach Michelle Lindquist and for the whole community to be very proud of.
This all started at a summer camp. To earn a superior rating, each girl qualifies for a red, white or blue ribbon. Each color of ribbon represents a different point. The number of points allowed each girl is up to 9. If the student gets enough blue ribbons that has qualified them for a superior rating and allows them to go to Nationals. They will compete in the Jazz 55 group, Hip Hop43 and large varsity.
They have been planning for this since June, 2014. This is a huge undertaking for the team. There was a lot of fund raising to do as this is a very high cost trip. Contact was made to businesses, community and individuals to rally around and help with the cost. The Winter Formal was one of the fundraisers.
In talking with Coach Michelle, I asked if there is something she would like to say. She said that she has high hopes for this team. Her dance team reminds her of her cheerleading squad back in the 80s because they are very cohesive and have a lot of support from the parents.
Coach Michelle and her entire dance team would like to give a big thank you to everyone from the businesses and individuals and the community for their support and their donations.
There is no doubt in my mind that this dance team will be returning home from a big win, and that is something everyone should be proud of.

Now I need to head to the luscious cookie table to tie me over.
Until next time.
