farmthGateway says thanks

Gateway North Elementary wants to express a huge thank you to the Clinton County Farm Bureau for their support of our school! Farm Bureau has teamed with us to help promote the Ag-STEM concepts.

This group volunteered to help set up an obstacle course on our Field Day and the students had a Blast. Not only did they have fun crawling through hay bales, pushing a watermelon, dressing like a farmer, and carrying an egg on a spoon but they also did a scavenger hunt that taught them about some of our Michigan agricultural products.

The teachers and students all learned that there are over 7,000 varieties of apples in the world, cows give an average of 7 gallons of milk a day, you can tell the age of sheep by its teeth and corn is the number one crop in Michigan.

The following day they sponsored two buses to take families to Family Fun at the Farm in Ionia County. We had a great time at the dairy farm participating in many learning opportunities. I even saw a calf be born!

This fall Farm Bureau is helping each grade level partner with a local farmer to help enhance the curriculum we already teach. We will interact with these farmers throughout the school year to learn about the many opportunities the field of agriculture offers to our students.

Thanks, Farm Bureau!
