Robert LeRoy Miller

miller_robertRobert “Bob” LeRoy Miller, age 93, passed away on May 6, 2015. He was born in Lansing, MI on May 7, 1921, the son of LeRoy and Rachael (Jenks) Miller. Bob retired from GM in 1986 as an electrician and was a Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Faith Fellowship Bible Church and the Jack Pine Lodge (Lansing Motorcycle Club), where he raced motorcycles from 1945 to the early 50’s. Bob enjoyed flat track racing, time with family at the cottage in the Farwell area, was an avid deer hunter and a Detroit Tiger’s fan. He and his wife also enjoyed their winters in Florida. He married Maxine Pollitt on Nov. 27, 1943 and she preceded him in death on December 25, 2005.

Surviving are his daughters, Connie (Carlton) Andrus of St. Johns, Cheri (Jim) Morgrette of Saginaw and Robin (Ron) Rochon of Dewitt, grandchildren, Robert (Amy) Andrus, Jeffery Andrus, Gordon (Raven) Pettigrew, Jessie (Kara Stephens) Pettigrew, Greg (Sonia) Rochon, Abby Rochon, great grandchildren, Anakin Andrus, Alexander Andrus, Dalton Andrus, Dallas Andrus, Amya Garza, Mukwa Pettigrew, Desmond Rochon and sisters, Dorothy Ballard and Sandy (Bob) Hart. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, his parents, sisters, Phyllis Roys, Sarah Demers, Beverly Barker, Ruth Holton and brother, Gerald Miller.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Pastor John Jakus presiding, private burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to Memorial Healthcare Hospice.

The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.

Max Lyle Hott

hott_maxMax Lyle Hott, age 91, of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, St. Johns, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, MI on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:00 A.M., with Dr. Donald Ferris-McCann officiating. Burial will take place at Duplain Township Cemetery St. Johns, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Max was born in St. Johns, Michigan on May 21, 1923, the son of Walter L. and Elsie M. (Crabb) Hott. He graduated in 1941 from Rodney B. Wilson High School. On June 12, 1948 Max married Rita Petro in St. Louis, Michigan. Max was a dairy farmer for many years. He loved his flower gardens, watching wildlife and enjoyed trapping. Max was a man of faith who loved God and his church. He was a kind and gentle soul whose family was very important to him. He was a member of Duplain United Methodist Church and later the Elsie United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Rita Hott of St. Johns, MI, 2 daughters; Mary and Rod Kiger of Elsie, Michigan, Jan and Mark Knowles of Elmwood, Tennessee, 9 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. Max was predeceased by his parents, daughter Diane Rivest, and brother Elwood.

Memorials may be made to Elsie United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, Michigan.


Winifred Emma Verlinde

verlinde_winifredWinifred Emma (Curtis) Verlinde was born on February 4, 1919 in Volinia Twp., Cass County, Michigan. She was the youngest child of 6 children (4 brothers and 1 sister) born to Frank B. and Prudie Pardee (Simpson) Curtis. She was a graduate of Dowagiac Central High School Class of 1937. At age 21 she met her future husband, Mr. Emil J. Verlinde at a dance; and after a 6 month long distance courtship, Mr. Verlinde thought that a marriage license and Holy matrimony would be much cheaper than a new car. So on October 12, 1940 they were married by a Justice of the Peace in Portland, MI. They soon purchased a 38 acre farm in St. Johns where she worked side by side milking cows, plowing and planting fields until they “retired” in 1985. During this time she gave birth to 5 sons, Donald, Michael, John, Paul and Thomas. They enjoyed dancing polkas and going to K of C dances. Everyone at the dances enjoyed Winifred’s purse.

Surviving her are sons Don Verlinde, Michael and Kathleen, Thomas and Lorri Verlinde. 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, (Frank and Prudie Simpson Curtis; sister Ella Nora, brothers James, Arthur Leroy, Homer K. Rolland V and husband Emil Joseph as well as sons John Royce and Paul Alan and daughter-in-law Kat.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. with Deacon Marv Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan or St. Joseph Education Trust Fund.


Robert A. Seibert

seibert_robertRobert A. “Bob” Seibert, age 79, of St. Johns, MI passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.

A Graveside Service will be held at Eureka Cemetery on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 10:00 A.M., with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating.

Robert was born in St. Johns, Michigan on January 8, 1936, the son of Albert and Marjorie (Sheldon) Seibert. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed working on tractors, and lawn mowers. Bob resided most of his life in St. Johns, Michigan. He was a member of the Fowler VFW Post.

He is survived by 2 daughters; Rosy and Todd Thelen of St. Johns, MI, Mary Seibert of St. Johns, MI, 1 son Robert Seibert Jr. of Maple Rapids, MI, 2 grandchildren; Kelsey Thelen and Casey Seibert, 2 brothers; David and Anna Seibert, and Danny Seibert, 2 sisters; Sylvia Outlaw, and Kathleen McGeachy, and special friend, Bill Dersham. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother Charles.

Memorials may be made to the Fowler VFW Post. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, Michigan.
