Jerry L. Weismiller
Jerry L. Weismiller died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the age of 67. He was born February 15, 1948 in St. Johns, MI the son of Loyal and Thelma (Cressman) Weismiller. He was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Class of 1966 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. Jerry was the ultimate family man and loved spending time with his family engaging in all kinds of activities.
He enjoyed working on his farm, riding scooters and spending time in northern Michigan at his condo. Jerry was the most honest and caring person anyone could have had the privilege of knowing and those around him benefited by having him in their lives. Jerry was a teacher for Grand Ledge Public Schools, retiring in 1997. On October 20, 1973 he married his soul mate and best friend, Sandie Dinstbier and she survives him.
Also surviving is his daughter, Kelsey (Michael) Fobbe of St. Johns; two sons, Mark (Lindsay) of Farmington Hills and Bryn of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, Bryce and Macy Weismiller; special cousin, Johanna (Ron) Balzer of Bath and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Jack, and his rascally cat, Ollie.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Rev. Dr. Rodney Kalajainen officiating. Interment will take place at DeWitt Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, June 12, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Capital Area Humane Society.
Carlton “Deak” Watters
Beloved father and grandfather Carlton “Deak” Watters born November 15, 1930 in Holt Michigan to Carlton Sr. and Helen (Nelson) Watters died June 8, 2015.
Deak is survived by his friend and longtime partner, Fran Kelsey of St Johns, sister, Patricia (Keith) Hamilton of Mecosta and special aunt, Louise Allen of Mason.
Deak proudly served his country as a signalman aboard the USS Albemarle from 1948 to 1950. Deak is survived by his three children: Tim (Candy), Steve (Charlene) and Susan (Tim) Piper. Surviving grandchildren are: Heather (Erik) Walley, Angie (Jay) and Andy Watters, Scott (Amber), Danny (Kim), Kevin (Michelle) and Shanna O’Berry and Jason (Tina) Wise. Numerous great grandchildren also survive. He could be found on the sidelines for most of the grandchildren’s sports activities and also loved hearing about the adventures of the great grandchildren.
In his professional life he excelled as a tool and die maker for both General Motors and Michigan State University during the early years of the cyclotron project. He retired from Michigan State in 1990. He had been an Elk for the past 50 years, and held numerous positions with the Elks including, Secretary and Past Exalted Ruler.
He continued to support the Alma Lodge until his death.
Deak loved sports especially his Detroit Tigers and MSU Spartans. He enjoyed motorsports and took his boys to the Indy 500 in the 1960s. He was also an expert jitterbug dancer, cardshark and slot machine player. While we mourn his loss, we know he is free from the diseases that eventually overtook his body.
Family requests donations be made to National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Fr. Lawrence Patrick Delaney
Rev. Larry Delaney, 75, Director of the St Francis Retreat Center, DeWitt, entered eternal life about 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015.
Father Delaney was born February 15, 1940 in Owosso, MI, to Earl F. and Charlotte M. (Maloy) Delaney and baptized at St Paul Church, Owosso March 10, 1940. He graduated from Resurrection High School, Lansing in 1958 and attended Michigan State University, East Lansing 1958-59. He entered Holy Cross Seminary, LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1959 and completed priesthood studies at St John Provincial Seminary, Plymouth, Michigan in 1967. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Alexander Zaleski on June 3, 1967 at St Mary Cathedral, Lansing.
He served as Associate Pastor (parochial vicar) for: St Charles Parish, Coldwater June, 1967 – August, 1967; St Mary Star of the Sea Parish, Jackson August, 1967 – June 1971; and St Therese, Parish, Lansing June, 1971 – November, 1975. He served as Pastor of Holy Trinity Student Chapel, Ypsilanti and was Chaplain at Eastern Michigan University from November, 1975 to January 1, 1989. On January 1, 1989 he was appointed by Bishop Kenneth Povish to be the first Director of the St Francis Retreat Center, DeWitt.
Father Larry is survived by his brothers and sisters, Donald (Margaret) Delaney, Douglas (Linda) Delaney, Dennis (Patricia) Delaney, Frances Schnepp, Cheryl (Mac) Williams and Suzanne Price; by his sister-in-law, Harriet Kay (Charles) Delaney; and by his nieces and nephews, Mark Schnepp, Michael Schnepp, Marty Schnepp, Matt Schnepp, Layna Korcal, Kathy Conklin,Patrick Delaney, Jeffrey Delaney, Dan Williams, Ann Scheib, Michael Delaney, Laura Sayers, Sarah Gill, Brian Delaney, Lisa Brady, Joseph Delaney, Ann Sarber, David Delaney, Ryan Delaney, Sheena Price and Larry Price, He also had 35 great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Phyllis Rodebaugh and Mary Ellen Delaney, and by his brother, Charles Delaney.
Visitation will be at St Jude Church, 801 N. Bridge Street, DeWitt, from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at St Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Avenue, Lansing, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13 with visitation before the Mass, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Following the funeral Mass a reception will be held at St Mary Cathedral Parish Hall with interment at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing, after the reception.

Elaine L. Redmond
Elaine L. Redmond of St. Johns and formerly of Bath, died June 6, 2015 at the age of 74. Born March 18, 1941, Elaine was the daughter of David Nelson and Ada Mae (Anderson) Coffey. In September 1958 she married John “Jack” Redmond and he survives her.
Also surviving are their children, Lori (Lynn) Thurston of St. Johns, Jack (Sally) Redmond of Lansing, Penny (Richard) French of St. Johns, Melody (Dan) Hyland of Muir, Darla (Dan) Fabus of Elsie; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Norma (Dave) Peterson, Marjorie (Bob) Baldwin; special friend and sister-in-law, Ann (Tony) Weber; brothers, Ron Coffey, Clifford (Patty) Coffey; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Loraine Charles and Linda Coffey.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Osgood Funeral Homes, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating and Burial to follow at DeepDale Cemetery at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday, June 8, 2015 at the funeral home.
Sharyn A. Rahl
Sharyn A. Rahl, age 68, passed away June 4, 2015. She was born August 12, 1946, and grew up in Tulsa, OK. Sharyn graduated from St. Johns Lutheran College and worked as a Human Resources Director at Dart Container Corp., retiring in 2013 after 36 years. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was very involved. Sharyn loved reading, music, gardening, cooking and her family.
Sharyn is survived by her husband, Ted; daughter, Christy (Jeremy) Rahl-Letts; 4 sons, Kevin (Laura) Miesner, Jason (Carissa) Rahl, Thede Rahl, and Jeremy (Crystal) Rahl; 9 grandchildren, Dean, Emma, Theodore, Ella, Noah, Taylor, Cameron, Aly and Viola; nieces, Pamela and Angie, as well as many other relatives and extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Salzman.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 528 N. MLK Jr. Blvd., Lansing, with The Rev. Dan R. Johnson officiating. Her family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lymphoma and Leukemia Society or Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in memory of Sharyn Rahl.
