Rainbow Place Preschool
Rainbow Place Preschool is the “15 Year Strong” licensed early childhood education center is located within First Church of God at 1063 S. Dewitt Rd. in St. Johns, MI. By setting children up for success, challenging them as individuals, and providing a diverse quality curriculum, Rainbow Place exceeds Michigan education standards. Additional offerings include; providing a safe and healthy learning environment that nurtures the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and technical growth in young children.
Dawn M. Schneider, AKA “Mrs. Dawn”, is the owner, director, and one of three lead teachers at Rainbow Place. She believes that it is the process through which a child learns that is most important. Throughout their structured three-hour class sessions children are taught in small and large group activities. They are encouraged to be independent thinkers and to use their words to communicate.
The school completes two assessments yearly and invites the children to add selected treasures to their year-end portfolios.
Rainbow Place arranges parent transported field trips to various locations annually. To date they have visited Bohaty’s, Miss Heather’s Dance Studio, Red Cedar Gymnastics, Abrams Planetarium, Twistars, Impression 5 Science Museum, Uncle Johns Cider Mill, Andy T’s, Jump’n Jax, The St. Johns Train Depot, Briggs Public Library, and PKSA Karate. This spring the children will take a short walk across the road to visit the IQ Hub at Liquid Agro-Culture. Ms. Marie also enhances monthly themes at the preschool by sharing her favorite stories. In addition, visits by Clinton Area Ambulance, the City Fire Department, and multiple police officers have provided “real” experiences for the children.
Rainbow Place is also a site that accommodates early childhood graduates in need of completing their student teaching hours. They welcome Clinton County high school students involved in the RESA pre-college ECE programs. Students attend the preschool twice weekly to interact, implement ideas, and grow from their experience at Rainbow Place.

Schneider and her educational team; Mrs. Shannon Nobis, Miss Samantha Dick, Mrs. Ellen Davis, and Mrs. Ramona Smith, have a combined total of 50 years’ experience through earning their degrees in early childhood education, attending conferences, workshops, and time spent in the classroom.
Schneider says, “I cannot take all the credit for the success of Rainbow Place. I am grateful and humbled by the dedication, patience, and support given to the children by my co-teachers and assistants. My immediate family has assisted in numerous ways through years too. The wonderful parents and grandparents that assist in class, prepare items at home, and share their talents with the children continually enhance our curriculum. We truly appreciate their faith in our program and we are thankful they have shared their miracles with us. Most importantly, we must recognize that it is the children; the core of Rainbow Place Preschool, past and present that have opened their hearts and minds and allowed us to enrich their lives.”
