15 students pursuing health careers earn $1,000 scholarships<\/strong>
\nClinton County students pursuing healthcare careers recently received a little help building their college funds from the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation.
\nUnder the Merten and Geraldine Whyman Health Careers Scholarship Fund, the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation granted $1,000 scholarships to 15 area high school and college students.
\nEach applicant\u2019s academic record, community service, leadership and personal achievements were carefully reviewed prior to selection. Applicants also were asked to write a brief essay about why they deserve the scholarship and how, as a healthcare professional, they can make a difference in the health status of the people of mid-Michigan.
\nThe following high school students were named 2010 Wyman Scholars:
\n– Sarah Austin, Bath Community Schools
\n– NicoleBendt, DeWitt High School
\n– Alexander Wernert, DeWitt High School
\n– Meghan Hehrer, Ovid-Elsie High School
\n– McKayla Miller, Ovid-Elsie High School
\n– Jessica Smith, Ovid-Elsie High School
\n– Shanna Fox, Pewamo-Westphalia High School
\n– Rebecca Schneider, Pewamo-Westphalia High School
\n– Amanda Beaufore, St. Johns High School
\n– Zachary Salandar, St. Johns High School
\n– Aubree Loznak, St. Johns High School
\n– Morsi Rayyan, St. Johns High School
\nThe following college students were named 2010 Wyman Scholars:
\n– Kayli Pioszak, Michigan State University
\n– Brooke Wieber, Lansing Community College
\n– Lauren Makarauskas, Indiana University \u2013 Bloomington
\nThe Merten and Geraldine Whyman Health Careers Scholarship Fund, an endowment fund established in 1986, provides annual scholarships for education in a health-related field to Clinton County residents. Thanks to additional contributions by community members, the fund has grown to provide even more scholarship opportunities. To date, 203 scholarships have been granted for a total of $182,600.
