\nThink about it – jazz standards and popular favorites brought to life via sophisticated four-part harmony backed by one of the best rhythm trios in the state.
\nThat’s Metro Jazz Voices.
\nMark your calendar for Aug. 18 and prepare to be entertained when the Detroit-based group sings and swings at the St. Johns City Park Performance Shell in the weekly Concert in the Park summer music series. There’s no admission charge for the performance that begins at 7 p.m.

\nMetro Jazz Voices will croon tunes from all eras of the ‘Great American Songbook’ – everything from standards like “Pennies from Heaven” and “Over the Rainbow,” to modern classics like “Me and Julio, Down by the Schoolyard.”
\nSome arrangements are similar to the New York Voices, Manhatten Transfer and Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, producing sounds that are comfortable and yearning with sweet harmonies.
\nThe vocals in the “Voices” belong to Meri Slaven, Nicci Der-Stepanian, Carl Cafagna and Jeremy St. Martin. Instrumental backing comes from Scott Gwinnell on piano, Jordan Schug on bass and Mike Higgins playing drums. Cafagna also adds saxophone and flute into the mix.
\nMetro Jazz Voices is a musical feast that’s fine art – and high entertainment.
\nConcert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the city of St. Johns, with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
\nConcerts are held each Wednesday evening, beginning at 7 p.m., in the beautiful outdoor concert venue at the St. Johns City Park. The St. Johns Lions and Lioness Club staff a concession stand each week that offers light refreshments. All concerts are held rain or shine.
