Haverkate, Richard L. Karber, Melvin Warren, Mark Devereaux, Dennis James Weber<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>R.V. &#8220;Bob&#8221; Roof<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nR V &#8220;Bob&#8221; Roof, 86, of Houghton Lake passed away Tuesday September 14, 2010 at Grayling Mercy Hospital. Bob was born on June 11, 1924 in Bannister to the late William and Erma (Palmer) Roof. He was married to Coralee Demaray in St. Johns on April 8, 1948. The couple moved to Houghton Lake from St. Johns over 30 years ago, following Bob&#8217;s retirement from Sealed Power. Bob was a life member of the St. Johns VFW. He was a member of Good Shepherd of the North Methodist Church in Roscommon.<br \/>\nSurviving Mr. Roof are his loving wife of 62 years, Coralee Roof of Houghton Lake; beloved son, Doug (Patricia) Roof of Perrington; two dear grandchildren, Sara(Clinton) Canfield and Chad Roof; and three dear great grandchildren, Miakoda, Kaya, Jaci Canfield. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Helen Irish; and five brothers Leland, Waldo, Oliver, Paul, and William.<br \/>\nPrivate family services for Mr. R V Roof will be conducted. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery Lansing. Those wishing to make memorial donations in Bob&#8217;s memory are asked to consider the American Cancer Society. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christler-holdship.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christler Funeral Home-Houghton Lake<\/a> Chapel served the family.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Melodie A. Haverkate<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/haverkate_melodie.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Melodie A. Haverkate, 52 of St. Johns, MI died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010.  Melodie was born on October 20, 1957 in Lansing, MI the daughter of Harold and Rolene (Spence) White.  She graduated from Ashley High School in 1975 and had been in the mortgage industry for 25 years, the last 13 years as the Branch Manager for Amera Mortgage Corp. in East Lansing. Melodie enjoyed softball, fishing, the beach and her new grandson and being a \u201cBig Sister\u201d.<br \/>\nSurvivors include her son Jesse Chvojka (Kyeorda Kemp) of Oak Park, IL, Daughter Karen Chvojka of Skokie, IL; Twin sister, Melonie (Howard) Gingrich of Mt. Sterling, KY<br \/>\nBrother, Michael (Yvonne) White of Columbia, TN; grandson, Micah Chvojka; Special friend, Martin Denning of Lansing, MI; Companion, Daisy her beloved cat; Nieces, Jennifer LeVeck, Michelle Ritchie and Nephews, Craig Gingrich, Michael and Brandon White.<br \/>\nFuneral services will be held at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/a> on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Rodney Kalajainen officiating.   The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, 2 until 8 P.M.  Memorials may be given to Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region, 1235 Center St., #A, Lansing, MI 48906.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Richard L. Karber<\/strong><br \/>\nRichard L. Karber died Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the age of 81. He was born June 20, 1929 in St. Johns, Michigan the son of Joseph and Audry (Walling) Karber. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, traveling and trips to the casino. Richard was a loyal maintenance supervisor at Motor Wheel Corporation, retiring in 1985. On April 30, 1949 he married Donna Droste and she survives him.<br \/>\nAlso surviving is his step-mother, Leona Karber of St. Johns; three daughters, Leann (Brent) Blackman of Tulsa, OK, Carmen Karkau of Flint, Barbara (Jeff) Feldpausch of St. Johns; three sons, Michael (Sharon) of DeWitt, Wayne (Cam Bond) of St. Johns, Ken (Deb) of Raleigh, NC; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Karber of St. Johns and David Karber of Tucson, AZ; one step-brother, Walter &#8220;Sonny&#8221; (Shirley) Russell of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by his parents and one step-brother, Ken &#8220;Skip&#8221; Russell.<br \/>\nPrivate services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Volunteers of America 430 N. Larch St. Lansing, MI 48912. Arrangements and service provided by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keck-colemanfuneralhome.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/a>, St. Johns.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Melvin Warren<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/warren_melvin.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Melvin W. Warren died on September 8, 2010, at the age of 93. He was born in Duplain Twp., on May 9, 1917, the son of Russell and Pearl (Everett) Warren. Mel was the owner of Mel Warren Insurance Agency and H &#038; R Block in St. Johns; he was the oldest living member of the First Congregational Church. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, and the Masons.<br \/>\nSurviving is his wife Pauline Vail, whom he married in Lansing, on April 3, 1937; they shared 73 years together . Also surviving are their sons, Douglas Palmer (Kathleen) Warren, Melvin Winfield (Laura) Warren Jr., Richard Everett (Sara) Warren, eleven grandchildren, Jonathon, Christine, Laura, Catherine, Lawrence, Matthew, Wesley, Jessica, Mitchell, Elizabeth and Emily, sixteen great grandchildren, two sister\u2019s in law, Virginia Teich and Jeanne Rand, brother in law, Theodore Vail, a niece and three nephews. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Maxine Warren and brothers, Donald and Max Warren.<br \/>\nFuneral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the First Congregational Church with Pastor Ken Hall officiating, with burial following at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osgoodfuneral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Osgood Funeral Home<\/a>, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Friday, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Mark was born on February 20, 1952, the son of Orville and Virginia (Brewbaker) Devereaux of St. Johns.<br \/>\nPrivate services will be held at a later date.<br \/>\nArrangements by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osgoodfuneral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Osgood Funeral Homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Dennis James Weber<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/weber_dennis.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Dennis James Weber, age 53, died, September 8, 2010. Born on September 18, 1956, the son of Mark and Henrietta (Kramer) Weber. He was employed for many years at Federal Mogul and was a farmer. Dennis was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.<br \/>\nHe is survived by his parents, Mark and Henrietta, siblings, twin brother, David (Sue) Weber, Sheryl (Mike) Gallagher, Brenda (Ken) Miller, Dale Weber, Sandy (Bruce) Fandel, Pam (Glen) Miller, Danny Weber, Tammy (Jeff) Tyler, Doug (Mindy) Weber, Becky (Jeff) Wendinger, 29 nieces and nephews and 2 great nieces.<br \/>\nMass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding.
