Youth ages 7-9 can pick up a copy of the book Never Race a Runaway Pumpkin by Katherine Applegate at the Library desk. Discussion, snacks and activities will be part of the program that day.<br \/>\n<strong>Food Drive<\/strong><br \/>\nOur food drive will be earlier this year! Beginning Friday, October 1st we would like your help in filling our lobby display case with &#8220;non-perishable&#8221; food items. The items will then be delivered to the local food bank. Bring your donations to the circulation desk and we will place them in the case. What a great way to show we care for our friends and neighbors in need. *Please note that cans and boxes are preferred over glass containers and food expiration dates will be observed. The food drive will run through the month of October.<br \/>\n<strong>Book Launch Party<\/strong><br \/>\nYou\u2019re invited to St. Johns native Janet (Kloeckner) Halfmann\u2019s double book launch party for the titles Fur and Feathers and Good Night, Little Sea Otter. This celebration for all ages will include activities, prizes, food, interactive story times, book selling and signing. Join Janet at Briggs Public Library on October 26th between 6:30 and 8:00 pm. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States. Attempts have been made to ban numerous classics and popular titles throughout the years. Most of them were not banned thanks to the efforts of teachers, librarians, booksellers and community residents but you might be surprised to see what titles made the list. If you or someone you know has a digital ready television set that is in good working condition that you would be willing to donate please contact the Library.
