Bengel, Robert J. Prowant, Donald L. Workman, Ronald J. Schomisch<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Betty Lou Snyder<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n Betty Lou Snyder, age 82, of St. Johns passed away at their home on Tuesday evening, September 28, 2010, with loving husband John by her side. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Mance and Verna Ward.<br \/>\nShe is survived by her husband of 60 years, John; one daughter, Linda (Fred) Alfred of Ithaca; two sons, Rick Snyder of Nashville, MI, Mike (Karen) Snyder of Nashville, MI; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.<br \/>\nThere will be no services. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Ricki Carl Hasenbank<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/hasenbank_rickie.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Ricki Carl Hasenbank, age 22, of Ovid, Michigan, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at Clinton Memorial Hospital, St. Johns, Michigan.<br \/>\nFuneral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery Ovid, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.<br \/>\nRicki was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 22, 1988, the son of Ricki Lynn Hasenbank and Sherry Lynn (McMaster) Bates. On September 17, 2007 he married Misty Rose Clark in St. Johns, Michigan. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. Ricki enjoyed camping and fishing, and being with family. He resided most of his life in the Ovid area.<br \/>\nSurvivors include his wife Misty Hasenbank of Ovid, MI, daughter Alexis Hasenbank at home, mother Sherry Bates of Ovid, MI, father Ricki Hasenbank of Omaha, NE, 2 sisters; Joyce and Richard Scofield of Phenix City, AL, Julie Carfagno of Ovid, MI, brother Philip Hasenbank of Ovid, MI, grandparents Joyce and Lloyd McMaster of Ovid, MI.<br \/>\nMemorials may be made to the family. Bengel<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/bengel_robert.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Robert J. Bengel, Westphalia, age 75, loving husband, father, grandfather passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 as a result of a farm accident. He was born on May 9, 1935 in Fowler, MI the son of Joseph and Hilda (Thelen) Bengel. Robert was a member of St. Mary&#8217;s Catholic Church in Westphalia, St. Joseph Society, K of C Council #2890 and 4th Degree member of the Fr. Godez Assembly. Bob was a Machine Repairman at G.M. retiring after 37 years and he was a life long farmer who did custom combining on his John Deere for many years. He enjoyed life, playing cards, traveling with his wife, Gladys, going up to Chippewa Lake for fun and fishing and spending time with his friends at the cabin. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a &#8220;hearty laugh&#8221;, a smile on his face and was willing to help anyone. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Thelen; grandson, Noah Thelen; brothers-in-law, Louis Hengesbach, Robert Platte, and Donald Weber; godson Neil Thelen.<br \/>\nSurviving are his wife of 50 years, Gladys; children Kurt (Brenda) Bengel, Gail (Eugene) Spitzley, Joe (Kelly) Bengel, Debbie (Mike) Prince, Angie (Tony) Thelen, all of Westphalia; 17 grandchildren; siblings, Jeanette (Arnie) Pohl, Adeline (Vern) Schneider, Rosie (Jerome) Smith, Rich (Alice) Bengel, Aggie (Charlie) George; brother-in-law, Edgar (Mary Ann) Thelen; Sisters-in-law, Arlene Koster, Evelyn Hengesbach, Mary Ellen (Elvan) Pohl, Beverly Platte, and Diane (Bill) Thelen. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends.<br \/>\nThe Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Friday October 1, 2010 at St. Mary&#8217;s Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary&#8217;s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., both Wednesday and Thursday at the St. Mary&#8217;s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., both days. Arrangements are entrusted to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schraubenlehman.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes<\/a>, Portland.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Robert J. Prowant<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/prowant_robert.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Robert J. Prowant, died on Sept. 24, 2010, at the age of 83. Born, March 30, 1927, in Pontiac, MI, to Edward W. and Arla Louise (Green) Prowant. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, MI, in 1944. Robert served in WWII and the Korean War from 1944-1954. He married Catherine Ann Pohl on March 7, 1953, and she preceded him in death in 1989. Robert was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a past President of the St. Johns Chamber of Commerce, and a St. Johns Fire Dept. volunteer during the 1960\u2019s. He was owner of L&#038;L Restaurant in St. Johns, from 1955-1972. Robert relocated to AuGres, MI, in 1972 where he was owner and operator of the Hammell Beach hardware until 1982, at which time he semi-retired to Houghton Lake, MI, to operate another business, Kool Quik Service. He re-married, Dorothy Jean Harper on May 29, 1996, and she survives him.<br \/>\nAlso surviving are his children, Robert E. (Gail) Prowant of Algonquin, IL, Lou Ann (Glen) Scmidtfranz of Elsie, MI, and Barbara Ann (Ed) Manor of AuGres, MI, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Catherine Pohl.<br \/>\nThere will be a Graveside service at 3 p.m., on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Mt. Rest Cemetery, with Pastor David Hudgens officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osgoodfuneral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Osgood Funeral Home<\/a>, 104 E. Workman<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/workman_donald.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Donald L. Workman, 67, a resident of Dollar Bay, MI  passed away unexpectedly Thursday September 23, 2010, at his home. He was born on June 18, 1943, in Bay City, MI, a son of the Geraldine (Plowman) Workman and the late Arthur Workman. Don was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, MI. He then attended Michigan State University and Michigan Technological University where he graduated with a degree in history.<br \/>\nIn 1976 Don moved to the Copper Country and since 1984 has made his home in North Grosse Pointe Shores. Mr. Workman had been part owner of the Board of Trade Tavern, tended Bar at various taverns in the area, was a licensed real-estate agent working for Re-Max Restate of Houghton, was a licensed home inspector, had been a sales person for WOLV Radio and Charter Media, and most recently was employed with the Meals on Wheels program.<br \/>\nMr. Workman had a wide range of interests he enjoyed gardening, playing pool, reading, golfing, following the democratic party, living on his farm. He was a past president of the Local MLBA in 1982 and 1983, and was a former member of the Foresters. He was an avid supporter of the Copper Country Human Society.<br \/>\nPreceding him in death was his father.<br \/>\nDon is survived by his mother Geraldine Workman of Alma, MI; his sister: JoAnn (George) Ford of Moran, MI; his brother Ed Workman of Indiana; his long time special friends Justin and Ruby Marzke of Laurium and their children Penny and Heather; Tom and Jeannie Parrish of Dollar Bay; his long time companions: Henry, Millie, Sammy, and Rocky; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.<br \/>\nA memorial service for Don will be held 1 pm Monday September 27, 2010, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.<br \/>\nFriends may call on Monday September 27, 2010, from 11 am until time of services at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.memorialchapel.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Memorial Chapel Funeral Home<\/a> of Hancock. Following the memorial service all that knew Donald are welcomed to gather the Down Towner Lounge in Houghton from 3 to 6 pm to share stories of Donald with one another. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorial be given to the Copper Country Human Society.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Ronald J. Schomisch<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/miserybay.usanethosting.com\/sjindy\/obits\/images2\/schomish_ronald.jpg\" HSPACE=\"5\" ALIGN=\"left\" \/>Ronald J. Schomisch, age 93, passed away September 25, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he will be deeply missed.  Ronald was born in Olive Township, MI on March 8, 1917, the son of Arnold and Clara (Schafer) Schomisch.  He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and V.F.W. Post 3733 having served in WWII.  Ron was retired from Fisher Body after 30 years in body repair.  He married Margaret Swann on October 15, 1942 and she survives him.  Also surviving are his five children, Ronald (Billie Lou) Schomisch, Jr. of Farwell, Joyce Bushard of Lansing, Ardith (David) Miller of Fowler, Bette (Allen) Dault of Lapeer and Bruce Schomisch of Ionia, twelve grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.<br \/>\nHe is also survived by his brother, Raymond (Jan) Schomisch of St. Johns and his sister, Marcella Trierweiler of Westphalia.  Ronald was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred Schomisch, Irene Schneider, Ambra Milbourne and Jeanette Gladden, Brothers in law, William Gladden, Leland Trierweiler and John Milbourne.<br \/>\nFuneral Mass will be celebrated  10:30 am, Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Most Holy Catholic Church in Fowler with burial following the Mass at the Most Holy Trinity Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 7-9 pm Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday with Rosaries at 8 pm Monday and 3 and 8 pm Tuesday at the Goerge Chapel of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osgoodfuneral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Osgood Funeral Homes<\/a> at 11112 W. Ionia St. in Fowler.
