Everyone from 3 – 93, train lovers of all ages, enjoy visiting the Clinton Northern Railway (CNR) Museum at the St. Johns Depot.
The Clinton County Arts Council (which includes CNR) rents the Depot from May through October, so the Museum volunteers have been giving the public five last chances on October Sunday afternoons between 1:00 and 4:00 PM to enjoy the Depot with all it has to offer before it closes for six months.

More than 40 visitors each week have taken advantage of this opportunity, with the first arriving at 1:00 and the last leaving reluctantly about 4:30. They are offered tours of the two historic railcars on the tracks beside the Depot; a chance to enjoy the beauty and history of the building that was built in 1920 and restored in the late 1990s through a grant the City of St. Johns received; railroad artifacts which can be handled or appreciated through glass both in the Depot and in the black Ann Arbor box car on the tracks; and a view of one or more trains running around the large model train layout being built in the east room of the Depot.
Of extra special interest to the volunteers at the Museum have been the visitors who have tales to tell of their experiences with the Depot and the trains that came through St. Johns in the old days. Did you know that at one time baby chicks traveled by train from seller to buyer? All who have those wonderful memories are encouraged to drop in on a Sunday afternoon to write them down or tell them to a volunteer who will write them. If that isn’t possible, please call Jenny and Gary McCampbell at 989-224-6134 to make other arrangements to add to the growing anecdotes of hometown history that will be assembled in a 3-ring binder for all to enjoy.
Clinton County Arts Council is supported in part by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts and generous service clubs, businesses and individuals throughout the area.

[9

post-18896","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
