The Senior Center has heard it all
\n“I’m too young to go to the Senior Center”
\n“They are just a bunch of old folks”
\n“Food for older people isn’t any good”.
\nWell, none of that is true.
\nFirst off, lunches at the Senior Center on Mondays are a fundraising meal, cooked for the average Joe by some great volunteers.
\nExamples of lunches in January include:
\n Jan 10: Spaghetti, tossed salad, vegetable, garlic bread and fruit (cooked by Terry Thelen and Stu Fitzpatrick from Century 21 Property Mart)
\n Jan 17: Scalloped Potatoes and Ham, vegetable, rolls and salad (cooked by Tyler Barlage and other area ministers)
\n Jan 24: Pork Roast, Dressing w\/gravy, Baked Beans and Cranberries (cooked by Brenda Terpening and Darlene Terpening from the Chamber of Commerce)
\n January Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, scalloped corn and salad (cooked by Brenda Terpening)
\nThe cost of these complete meals is only $5 – it is $6.50 if you get the homemade pie to go along with the meal. If you are not that big of an eater, you can get a sandwich (Chicken Salad, Ground Bologna, Grilled Cheese, etc) for $2 or a bowl of homemade soup for $1.50.
\nAs for other activities at the center, again age doesn’t matter. If you think you are too young, then come down to volunteer and help those that are older. But, we think you will find that even if you are 60, 50 or even 45, you might have a great time. One of the most popular activities for people of all ages is their weekly Euchre Tournaments. Upcoming tournaments are scheduled for:
\n Jan 10, 24 and 31: 1-3 pm. The cost is $1 if you eat lunch at the center, $1.50 if you just come for the tournament.
\n Jan 17: 6:30-8:30 pm. The cost if $2 for everyone.
\nOn Thursday, Feb 3 the Senior Center will host their annual Chocolate Fantasy. This was an event enjoyed by all ages last year. At the event you can enjoy more than 25 delectable creations donated by area restaurants, bakeries and individuals. The cost of a ticket for this all-you-can-eat event is only $10 and tickets are available from any Board member, at the Senior Center or at the Chamber of Commerce.
